What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a fractional creative director, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Fractional Creative Director, you need a strong portfolio of creative work, strategic brand development experience, and a background in design, advertising, or marketing, often supported by a bachelor's degree in a related field. Familiarity with design software (like Adobe Creative Suite), project management tools (such as Asana or Trello), and digital marketing platforms is typically required. Outstanding leadership, communication, and adaptability set top candidates apart, enabling them to inspire teams and align creative output with client goals. These skills are vital for delivering high-impact creative strategies across multiple clients while efficiently managing time and resources in a part-time or contract capacity.

What is the difference between Fractional Creative Director vs Creative Director?

AspectFractional Creative DirectorCreative Director
CredentialsPortfolio, industry experience, sometimes certificationsPortfolio, extensive industry experience, often advanced degrees
Work EnvironmentPart-time, project-based, remote or on-siteFull-time, in-house or agency setting
Employer & Industry UsageStartups, small businesses, agenciesLarge corporations, agencies, brands
Search & Comparison IntentFlexible, freelance, part-time rolesFull-time, leadership roles

The main difference is that a Fractional Creative Director works on a part-time, project basis, often remotely, providing strategic creative leadership to multiple clients. In contrast, a Creative Director typically holds a full-time, in-house position, overseeing creative teams within a single organization. Both roles require strong industry experience and a solid portfolio, but their work settings and commitments differ significantly.

How does a fractional creative director typically integrate with in-house teams and existing workflows?

Fractional Creative Directors often work part-time or on a project basis, so they must quickly adapt to company culture and processes. They usually start by assessing current creative strategies, identifying gaps, and aligning with key stakeholders such as marketing, product, and design teams. Communication and collaboration are essential, as Fractional Creative Directors need to provide leadership and guidance without disrupting established workflows. They bring outside perspective while respecting the expertise of in-house staff, ensuring that creative projects remain cohesive and on-brand.

What is a fractional creative director?

Fractional Creative Directors are experienced creative professionals who work with companies on a part-time or contract basis, rather than as full-time employees. They provide creative leadership, oversee brand strategy, guide design teams, and help develop marketing campaigns, often for startups or businesses that don't need or can't afford a full-time creative director. Their flexible role allows organizations to access high-level creative expertise without the commitment of a permanent hire. Fractional Creative Directors can work with multiple clients at once, bringing diverse industry experience and fresh perspectives. This arrangement is especially popular among companies undergoing growth, rebranding, or launching new products.

Job description

Job Title: Director of Marketing

Department Name: Marketing

Reports to (Title): President and Chief Strategy + Growth Officer

About Morales Group:
Morales Group is a nationally recognized Indianapolis based staffing and supply chain solutions company. We believe we are here for a purpose - building better futures, one story at a time. Being part of our story means making the world better. Learn more: moralesgroup.net

Why Morales Group?

We want you to be part of our mission to build better futures. We believe in the relentless pursuit of growth and development of all our teammates. We show courage by communicating candidly and sharing bold ideas. We work humbly to create an inclusive and trusting community. And we are relentless in our pursuit of being a light to our clients and teammates. We stay gritty by embracing perseverance, resilience, and determination to overcome challenges and achieve success together.

If you are ready to jump on board with a high-growth organization, Morales Group is the place for you. Join our globally diverse culture filled with deep camaraderie and passion for a bolder future. We need hungry, humble, and people-smart leaders to help pave the way.

The Position:

Morales Group is at an inflection point. With a clear growth strategy, we're investing in the marketing leadership needed to turn that foundation into measurable business growth. As Director of Marketing, you will own day-to-day marketing execution and internal team leadership across three distinct business units - Morales Group Staffing, Morales Professional, and Accion Performance.

This is a leadership role with real execution responsibility. You'll set the operational direction for a small but growing team, own B2B marketing delivery, and help shape marketing strategy alongside experienced fractional leadership.

This role is supported by a Fractional CMO and growth team that owns paid media, HubSpot infrastructure, and demand gen systems. The Director owns everything that requires presence, relationships, and execution - brand, content, campaigns, team, and business unit collaboration.

The right candidate is a hands-on B2B marketing leader who is equally comfortable collaborating on strategy and rolling up their sleeves to execute. You bring structure to a growing function - setting priorities, building team rhythm, and creating the conditions for consistent, high-quality execution.

What You'll Own

Team Leadership & Development
The Director of Marketing is the day-to-day leader of the internal marketing team. This includes direct management of current team members and future hires as the function scales.

  • Lead, coach, and develop a small but growing marketing team (B2C + Recruitment Marketing); establish clear roles, priorities, and accountability rhythms (standups, sprint planning, campaign retros).
  • Build the operating cadence for the function - intake processes, creative review workflows, and reporting routines that make execution predictable and high quality.
  • Identify skill gaps and make the case for future hires, contractors, or agency support as the function scales.
  • Champion Morales Group's culture and core values within the marketing team.

B2B Focus

The Director of Marketing owns end-to-end B2B marketing execution across Morales Group Staffing, Morales Professional, and Accion Performance.

Brand & Content:

  • Serve as guardian of brand voice, visual identity, and messaging consistency across websites, social channels, sales collateral, and recruiting materials.
  • Own the content engine: thought leadership, case studies, client success stories, white papers, and vertical-specific content that positions Morales Group as a trusted workforce partner.
  • Lead employer brand and community storytelling - showcasing the mission, culture, and community partnerships that differentiate Morales Group in the market.

Campaigns & Email:

  • Build and execute quarterly B2B campaign themes across business units.
  • Own HubSpot email campaign execution: newsletter cadence and nurtures for each business unit.
  • Collaborate with Fractional Demand Gen team to maintain clean list segmentation and lifecycle stage accuracy in HubSpot.
  • Launch, measure, and iterate on integrated campaigns tied to pipeline growth and service line awareness.

Sales Enablement:

  • Partner closely with the VP of Business Development and sales team to understand pipeline needs and develop supporting materials.
  • Build and maintain a library of sales collateral - presentations, one-pagers, case studies, and RFP materials.
  • Support business development efforts across Morales Professional and Accion with targeted content and outreach materials.

B2C Oversight

The Director of Marketing provides strategic oversight of B2C recruitment marketing while the B2C team member owns day-to-day execution. This includes:

  • Providing direction on candidate-facing content strategy, job advertising, and recruitment campaigns.
  • Ensuring B2C social media and Google Business Profile activity aligns with overall brand standards.
  • Overseeing demand planning and seasonal hiring calendar development in partnership with operations.
  • Supporting the development of the candidate email database and lifecycle marketing strategy.
  • Maintaining oversight on recruitment marketing vendors, print, and event collateral.

Performance, Reporting & Attribution

  • Own weekly and monthly marketing performance reporting in partnership with the Fractional CMO.
  • Own marketing budget tracking and expense tracking.
  • Contribute to EOS L10 reporting - marketing revenue, gross margin contribution, and MQL tracking.
  • Develop a clear understanding of HubSpot pipeline data and use it to inform campaign priorities.
What Success Looks Like in Year One
  • A documented marketing operating system: campaign calendar, intake process, and team rhythm that leadership can see and trust.
  • Consistent, on-brand content and campaign delivery across all three business units - no more feast-or-famine execution.
  • Clear marketing-sourced and marketing-influenced pipeline reporting reviewed monthly with leadership.
  • A stronger, more visible Morales Group brand in the Indianapolis market and within target verticals.
  • A team that is growing in capability, clarity, and confidence under your leadership

Morales Group Benefits:

  • Health insurance - Medical, vision, dental and life insurance plans available.
  • Disability Insurance - Short-term and long-term coverage.
  • Paid Baby Bonding Time - because family is important.
  • Competitive PTO
  • 401k Plan - for saving for the future.
  • Professional Development - From our Udemy partnership to monthly workshops to continuing education tuition reimbursement program - we believe in developing our team.
  • A culture of Giving Back - 16 Paid Volunteer Hours
  • Passport Program - we want to keep the team engaged in the culture we've built.
  • 8+ years of B2B marketing experience with ownership of brand, campaigns, content, and sales enablement.
  • Proven team leadership. You've managed, coached, and developed marketing teams.
  • Hands-on execution capability - you can write a brief, build an email, and review creative.
  • Collaborative by nature and effective working alongside external resources including fractional leaders and contractors.
  • Working knowledge of HubSpot or comparable marketing automation platform (or willingness to learn).
  • Strong understanding of B2B demand gen, pipeline marketing, and sales alignment.
  • Experience in staffing, professional services, or supply chain is a plus but not required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Undergraduate degree in marketing, business, or related field.
