Fractional Analytics information

What is a fractional analytics?

A Fractional Analytics job involves providing data analysis, insights, and strategic recommendations on a part-time or contract basis rather than as a full-time employee. Fractional analysts help businesses optimize their data-driven decision-making without the cost of a full-time hire. They often work with multiple clients, leveraging expertise in data science, business intelligence, and performance analytics. This role is ideal for companies that need high-level analytics expertise but do not require a full-time resource.

What are the typical responsibilities of someone working in fractional analytics?

Professionals in Fractional Analytics often juggle multiple clients or projects simultaneously, providing expert analysis, dashboard development, and strategic insights tailored to each organization's needs. Weekly tasks may include gathering and cleaning data, building and maintaining reports, meeting with stakeholders to understand business objectives, and translating analytics into actionable recommendations. The role frequently involves collaborating remotely with in-house teams, ensuring analytic solutions align with the client's strategic goals. Because projects can vary in scope, flexibility and the ability to quickly adapt to new industries or business models are important for success.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in fractional analytics?

To excel in a Fractional Analytics role, candidates typically require strong analytical expertise, experience in data interpretation, and a proven track record in data-driven decision-making, often backed by a degree in statistics, mathematics, or a related field. Familiarity with business intelligence tools such as Tableau, Power BI, SQL, and certifications in data analytics platforms are highly valuable. Strong communication, adaptability, and stakeholder management skills help Fractional Analytics professionals to effectively deliver insights across multiple organizations or projects. These capabilities are essential for providing impactful, high-level analytics on a part-time or project-basis, ensuring companies achieve data-driven results without a full-time commitment.

Job description

Fractional CFO & Senior Accounting Advisor

Salt Lake City, Utah

We are seeking an experienced Fractional CFO & Senior Accounting Advisor to provide high-level financial guidance and accounting oversight to a portfolio of business clients.

This is not simply an accounting or bookkeeping role. We are looking for someone who can become a trusted financial partner to our clients. This person will develop an in-depth understanding of each client's business, accounting systems, financial position, goals, and challenges—and use that knowledge to help business owners make better, more informed decisions.

The ideal candidate has extensive accounting knowledge, is an expert in QuickBooks Online, and is equally comfortable digging into the details of a client's financials and sitting across the table from a business owner to explain what those numbers mean for their business.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary financial partner and Fractional CFO for an assigned portfolio of clients
  • Develop a thorough understanding of each client's business, including its operations, revenue model, expenses, cash flow, accounting practices, financial goals, and unique challenges
  • Learn the details of each client's accounting and become intimately familiar with their financial history and current financial position
  • Review financial statements and underlying accounting data for accuracy, completeness, trends, risks, and opportunities
  • Meet with each client monthly to review financial results, discuss the financial health of the business, and identify issues that require attention
  • Build and maintain annual budgets for each client
  • Develop financial forecasts and projections based on historical performance, current results, and the client's plans for the business
  • Present budgets, forecasts, financial statements, KPIs, and other relevant financial information to clients in a clear and understandable way
  • Translate financial data into meaningful business insights and actionable recommendations
  • Help clients understand the financial implications of important business decisions
  • Proactively identify cash flow concerns, profitability issues, unusual trends, and opportunities for improvement
  • Help clients establish and monitor meaningful financial and operational KPIs
  • Work with clients to improve financial processes, reporting, and internal controls
  • Maintain a high level of accuracy and organization while managing the financial details of multiple clients
  • Develop strong, long-term client relationships and become a trusted resource for financial and business decisions

Qualifications

  • Extensive accounting and financial management experience
  • Advanced knowledge of accounting principles and financial statements
  • Expert-level proficiency in QuickBooks Online
  • Strong experience with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial analysis
  • Ability to understand both the details of a client's accounting and the larger financial picture of the business
  • Ability to quickly learn different businesses, industries, revenue models, and financial structures
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify the story behind the numbers
  • Ability to translate complex financial information into practical, understandable business advice
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Strong client-service skills and the ability to build trusted relationships with business owners
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy
  • Ability to manage multiple clients, priorities, deadlines, and financial reporting cycles simultaneously
  • Comfortable working independently while collaborating effectively with the rest of the team

CPA designation is a significant plus.

Experience in public accounting, outsourced accounting, Client Advisory Services (CAS), fractional CFO services, controllership, or working with a portfolio of small and midsize businesses is highly desirable.

What Success Looks Like

Success in this role goes beyond producing accurate financial statements. Our clients should understand their businesses better because of the work you do.

You will know you are succeeding when clients understand where their businesses stand financially, what is driving their results, what they should be paying attention to, and how the decisions they make today are likely to affect their businesses in the future.

Compensation & Benefits

We offer competitive compensation along with a comprehensive benefits package that includes:

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k)
  • Paid time off and paid holidays
  • Professional dues and continuing education support

Work Environment

This is an in-office position based in Salt Lake City, Utah. We value collaboration, accessibility, excellent client service, and team members who want to contribute meaningfully to the continued growth of the practice.
