Job description

Job Title: Pega Developer (Senior)

Location: Remote

Citizenship: Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident

Security Clearance: USDA Public Trust

AttainX is seeking a Pega Developer to support Operations & Maintenance (O&M) and authorized Development, Modernization, and Enhancement (DM&E) activities for Pega-based applications within the USDA IT ecosystem. This role focuses on stabilizing, maintaining, and improving Pega implementations while collaborating with cross-functional teams working in .NET, SQL Server, and AWS environments.

The USDA Pega environment includes applications where business logic is partially externalized into .NET services and SQL Server stored procedures. A key aspect of this role is refactoring these implementations toward Pega best practices while supporting the broader team’s modernization and cloud migration objectives.

Essential Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field.
  • Senior-Level: Minimum 8 years of IT experience, including 5+ years of advanced Pega architecture and development experience.
  • Hands-on experience with Pega Platform case management, workflows, UI configuration, data pages, decision rules, and SLA configurations.
  • Experience with Pega class structure design across Work, Data, and Integration layers.
  • Experience with Pega integration services (REST, SOAP, RDBMS connectors).
  • Working familiarity with SQL Server environments, including the ability to read and understand stored procedures and cross-database queries in order to support refactoring efforts.
  • Working familiarity with .NET-based systems sufficient to understand integration points and collaborate with .NET developers on shared services.
  • Experience deploying Pega applications in AWS-hosted or hybrid cloud environments.
  • Understanding of CI/CD pipeline concepts and willingness to integrate Pega deployments into FPAC-approved pipelines (AWS CodeBuild, CodePipeline, Jenkins).
  • Pega Certified System Architect (CSA) or Certified Senior System Architect (CSSA).
  • US Citizen or Permanent Resident with the ability to obtain USDA Public Trust Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting USDA, FPAC, NRCS, or other federal civilian agencies.
  • Experience with Pega Constellation UI architecture and component-based design.
  • Familiarity with Pega guardrail compliance and application quality scoring.
  • AWS Cloud Practitioner or Solutions Architect Associate certification.
  • Experience working within large-scale O&M contracts with active cloud migration.
  • SAFe, Scrum, or equivalent Agile certification.
  • Familiarity with Section 508 accessibility requirements as applied to Pega UI components.
  • Experience with Pega Application Management Services (AMS), including incident management and root cause analysis.

Core Responsibilities:

Pega Application Development & Maintenance:

  • Design, configure, and maintain Pega case management workflows, UI components, and business process automation in alignment with Pega guardrails and best practices.
  • Perform corrective, adaptive, preventive, and perfective maintenance on Pega-based applications per PWS-defined maintenance categories and SLAs.
  • Triage and resolve production defects in Pega applications, including root cause analysis, regression testing, and documentation in Government-approved tracking systems (Jira).
  • Refactor existing Pega implementations where business logic has been externalized into .NET services or embedded in SQL stored procedures, working toward clean separation of concerns within the Pega platform.
  • Develop and maintain reusable components at Framework and Organization levels to reduce duplication and maintenance cost.
  • Optimize application performance using Pega diagnostic tools (PAL, PLA, Tracer, SMA).

Modernization Support:

  • Participate in modernization assessments to evaluate Pega applications for refactoring, re-platforming, replacement, or retirement.
  • Provide subject matter input on Pega application complexity, technical debt, and dependencies to support the Enterprise Lead Architect’s modernization roadmap and scoring model.
  • Support incremental migration of Pega applications from on-premises (DISC) to AWS-hosted environments, collaborating with the platform team on deployment and configuration issues.
  • Identify and document integration points and dependencies between Pega applications and shared services (e.g., Core Services, CSAPI, Z Roles) to inform decoupling efforts.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with .NET developers, database teams, and the platform team to resolve cross-system issues affecting Pega applications.
  • Coordinate with the Release Manager and delivery teams to ensure Pega deployments follow FPAC-approved CI/CD pipelines and pass automated quality gates (SonarQube, Fortify).
  • Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) activities, working with Government stakeholders to validate delivered functionality meets business requirements.
  • Contribute to knowledge transfer activities, including maintaining troubleshooting playbooks, runbooks, and knowledge articles for Pega applications.

Security & Compliance:

  • Follow secure coding practices and FPAC security standards in all Pega development and maintenance activities.
  • Remediate security vulnerabilities in Pega applications within established SLAs (14 days for critical/high).
  • Support Section 508 accessibility compliance within Pega UI components.
  • Maintain audit-ready documentation for all Pega-related work activities.
