Founder Director information

What is a founder director?

Founder Directors are individuals who have both founded a company and serve on its board of directors. They are responsible for setting the strategic direction of the organization, making high-level decisions, and ensuring the company adheres to its mission and values. Founder Directors often play a pivotal role in shaping the company's culture and long-term vision, leveraging their entrepreneurial insight to guide the business from inception through growth stages.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a founder director, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Founder Director, you need a strong background in business development, strategic planning, leadership, and financial management, generally supported by entrepreneurial experience or a relevant degree. Familiarity with business management software, finance tools, and sometimes project management or industry-specific certifications is common. Visionary thinking, resilience, exceptional communication, and decision-making skills set outstanding Founder Directors apart. These competencies are essential for driving organizational growth, navigating challenges, and effectively leading teams to achieve business objectives.

What are some common challenges founder directors face when transitioning from a startup phase to a scaling business?

Founder Directors often encounter challenges in shifting their focus from hands-on involvement in every aspect of the business to delegating responsibilities and building out leadership teams. As the company grows, they need to implement more structured processes and adapt their management style to support larger teams and more complex operations. Balancing strategic vision with day-to-day execution, while maintaining company culture and employee engagement, can be particularly demanding. Successful Founder Directors are those who prioritize clear communication, invest in leadership development, and remain adaptable as the business evolves.

What is the difference between Founder Director vs Business Development Manager?

AspectFounder DirectorBusiness Development Manager
CredentialsTypically entrepreneurial experience, industry knowledge, sometimes advanced degreesRelevant bachelor’s or master’s degree, sales or marketing certifications
Work EnvironmentLeadership role in startup or company, strategic planning, high-level decision makingClient engagement, market research, sales strategy implementation
Industry UsageFounders or early-stage companies, startups, SMEsEstablished companies, sales teams, marketing departments
Search & Comparison IntentUnderstanding leadership roles in startups, entrepreneurial positionsSales growth, market expansion, client acquisition roles

The main difference is that a Founder Director is a high-level leadership role often involved in starting and guiding a company, while a Business Development Manager focuses on expanding the company's market presence and sales. Both roles require strategic thinking, but the Founder Director typically has broader responsibilities in company vision and governance.

Job description

Senior Executive Assistant (Growth Path to Chief of Staff)

Company: Approvely Location: Coral Springs, FL Target Start Date: ASAP Reports To: Founder & CEO Direct Reports: Executive Assistant (Sales & Marketing)

The Elevator Pitch Let's be honest: you've seen your fair share of boring Executive Assistant job descriptions. This is not one of them. We aren't looking for a passive diary-manager or an order-taker. We are looking for a strategic gatekeeper, and an operational force multiplier who wants a front-row seat to building a category-defining fintech company. Approvely is a profitable, bootstrapped payment technology infrastructure platform processing more than $1 billion in annual payment volume. We are entering a hyper-growth phase fueled by institutional fundraising, product expansion, and rapid team scaling. Our CEO is a hands-on, brilliant, fast-moving founder with a massive bias toward execution. She shifts gears between fundraising, customer strategy, and product vision at lightning speed. She needs an operational right-hand to create structure out of ambiguity, reduce her context-switching, and ruthlessly guard her time. Bonus points? This role is intentionally architected with a direct growth path into a Chief of Staff position. If you have aspirations to transition into executive business leadership, we will give you the runway to do exactly that.

The Vibe & Working Style Our CEO values speed, extreme ownership, and practical problem-solving over "perfect process." She communicates dynamically throughout the day and loves concise, solution-oriented updates. Your job isn't to wait for instructions—it's to anticipate needs three steps ahead. You'll manage her calendar with a balanced, highly strategic approach: fiercely defending uninterrupted blocks for deep work and fundraising preparation, while seamlessly locking in high-value meetings with investors, enterprise clients, and partners. If a meeting doesn't have an agenda, a clear purpose, or an absolute requirement for her presence, you'll confidently reschedule, delegate, or decline it.

What You'll Own Executive Operations & "Air Traffic Control" Calendar & Focus Defense: Masterfully curate the CEO's schedule to maximize impact over volume, keeping her focused only on highest-value priorities. Inbox Diplomacy: Over time, take the keys to the CEO's inbox. Prioritize incoming messages, ghostwrite high-stakes correspondence, independently respond to inquiries, and flag critical decisions. Meeting Mastery: Ensure the CEO never walks into a meeting cold. You will build comprehensive briefing documents (company backgrounds, CRM history, talking points, and objectives). You will track action items across teams to ensure execution. Leadership & Mentorship: Serve as the head of our internal administrative function, directly managing, mentoring, and balancing the workload for our Sales & Marketing EA. Special Projects & Growth Support Strategic Initiatives: Keep the gears turning on fundraising preparation, due diligence requests, investor pipelines, product launches, and enterprise customer implementations. Internal Operations & SOPs: Identify operational bottlenecks, build out team documentation/SOPs, and continuously drive cross-departmental accountability. Personal Executive Support: Handle high-value personal logistics (family scheduling, travel, reservations, and special projects) to ensure the CEO's personal life runs as smoothly as her business life. Tech & AI Champion: We operate with an AI-first mindset. You'll leverage tools like ChatGPT, advanced CRM platforms, and AI meeting assistants daily to automate workflows and save time.

What Success Looks Like In 90 Days: You have fully optimized the CEO's calendar, organized her inbox, streamlined executive travel, and successfully implemented a bulletproof follow-up tracker. The CEO is actively reclaiming meaningful strategic hours every single week. In 6 Months: You are managing the majority of executive communications and driving key company cross-functional initiatives without daily oversight. You are a trusted representative of the Office of the CEO. Long-Term: You have scaled alongside Approvely, mastered the business from the inside out, and are actively stepping into broader Executive Operations or a Chief of Staff role.

If you are a fiercely proactive executive operations professional who wants to stop just scheduling meetings and start scaling a powerhouse company, apply today. We can't wait to meet you.

Requirements What You Bring to the Table (Qualifications) The Track Record: 5+ years supporting founders, CEOs, or senior executives—ideally in a fast-paced tech, startup, or B2B SaaS/Fintech environment. Startup DNA: You thrive in fast-moving, high-collaboration environments where priorities can pivot based on market opportunities. Exceptional Judgment: An ironclad track record of handling highly confidential data (M&A, board decks, compensation structures) with flawless discretion. Leadership Potential: Prior experience managing or mentoring other administrative staff is a huge asset. Tech-Fluent: You don't just use software; you optimize it. Google Workspace, Slack, Notion, and AI automation tools are part of your daily superpower toolkit. Location: Willing and excited to be on-site daily in beautiful Boca Raton, FL. Nice-to-Have Bonuses: Prior experience in Fintech, Web3, or Payments. Experience assisting with investor relation pipelines or institutional fundraising rounds.

Benefits What We Offer Highly competitive base salary commensurate with your seasoned expertise. Early-stage equity package (own a piece of the billion-dollar payments engine you're helping build). Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance. Generous PTO, paid company holidays, and a collaborative workspace in Boca Raton.
