What is the 70 30 rule in hiring?

The 70/30 rule in hiring suggests that 70% of the interview should focus on assessing a candidate's skills, experience, and qualifications, while 30% should evaluate cultural fit and soft skills. For founders and managers, applying this rule helps ensure a balanced evaluation process to select candidates who are both capable and aligned with company values.

What are some common challenges Founder and Managers face when balancing leadership responsibilities and day-to-day operations?

Founder and Managers often encounter the challenge of wearing multiple hats, balancing strategic decision-making with hands-on management of daily operations. This dual role can lead to time constraints and prioritization issues, especially in start-up or small business settings where resources are limited. Successful Founder and Managers typically develop strong delegation skills, build trust with their team, and implement clear processes to ensure both the company's vision and operational needs are consistently met. Regular communication and adaptability are key to overcoming these challenges and driving business growth.

About The Job

Quaternary Capital is a startup asset management firm deploying sophisticated long/short equity strategies to navigate modern markets. We aim to deliver alpha through disciplined risk management, deep market insight, and a research-driven approach. With a foundation built on agility, innovation, and integrity, we’re building a firm that can thrive in volatile and changing environments. We're now seeking an exceptional individual to join as Co-Founder & Partner. Someone who’s ready to help build a firm from the ground up, share in the vision, and play a key role in shaping the future of asset management.

The Opportunity

  • As a Co-Founder & Partner, you’ll be instrumental in the strategy, structure, and success of Quaternary Capital. This is not a job—it’s a venture. You’ll be at the helm of building a best-in-class investment platform, developing products, securing clients, and creating a firm culture grounded in integrity, performance, and innovation.

Your Role Will Involve

  • Strategic Development: Co-create and drive the firm's mission, business model, and long-term vision.
  • Investment Leadership: Contribute to or lead investment strategy development—quantitative, discretionary, or hybrid—depending on your expertise.
  • Business Building: Engage in capital raising, relationship management, marketing, and operational scaling.
  • Culture & Governance: Help build a transparent, high-performance culture with strong fiduciary principles.
  • Operational Oversight: Collaborate on infrastructure, compliance, and risk management setup as needed.

Ideal Background

We're open-minded about the path you've taken. You may have experience in asset management, hedge funds, investment banking, fintech, or even entrepreneurial ventures. More important than titles is your ability to execute, your commitment to excellence, and your desire to build.

  • Strong background in finance, investing, or capital markets or an entrepreneurial mindset and appetite for calculated risk.
  • Ability to attract and manage capital (or experience with investor relations).
  • Technical, quantitative, or analytical edge is a plus.
  • Values alignment—integrity, intellectual curiosity, and long-term thinking.
  • Willingness to work in a lean, startup environment.
  • Appetite for equity and long-term upside.

What We're Offering

  • Co-founder equity and leadership role.
  • Flexibility in shaping the firm's investment focus and structure.
  • Ability to co-author a new chapter in modern asset management.
  • A collaborative and purpose-driven partner in building something meaningful.

If you're not just looking for a seat at the table—but ready to build the table itself, we’d love to hear from you. This is more than a role—it’s a rare opportunity to be part of a high-conviction, high-upside venture in asset management.
