What is a Fortinet Engineer?

A Fortinet Engineer is an IT professional who specializes in configuring, managing, and troubleshooting Fortinet security products, such as FortiGate firewalls, VPNs, and other network security solutions. They are responsible for ensuring the security and integrity of an organization's network infrastructure by implementing advanced security measures and monitoring for threats. Fortinet Engineers often work closely with IT teams to design security architectures, perform system updates, and respond to security incidents. Their expertise helps organizations comply with cybersecurity standards and protect sensitive data from cyber threats.

What are some common challenges faced by Fortinet engineers when managing large-scale network security deployments?

Fortinet Engineers working with large-scale network security deployments often encounter challenges such as integrating Fortinet solutions with existing heterogeneous network environments, maintaining consistent security policies across multiple locations, and ensuring high availability and minimal downtime during upgrades or troubleshooting. They must also stay current with frequent firmware updates and new threat intelligence to keep security measures effective. Strong collaboration with IT, network, and cybersecurity teams is essential to address these challenges efficiently while supporting business continuity.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Fortinet engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Fortinet Engineer, you need a solid understanding of network security, firewall configuration, and troubleshooting, typically supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with Fortinet products (such as FortiGate), experience using security information and event management (SIEM) systems, and certifications like NSE 4 or higher are highly valued. Strong analytical skills, effective communication, and problem-solving abilities help you address complex security issues and support clients or teams. These skills and qualifications are crucial for ensuring robust network protection and efficient resolution of security challenges.

Why Digacore?
We're a fast-paced, people-first MSP with:
  • Real career growth
  • Autonomy to own projects and make decisions
  • A collaborative culture (we back each other up, no egos)
  • Paid certs, hybrid flexibility, and a leadership team that gets IT

About the Role:
Are you the go-to engineer who handles the toughest issues and loves designing smarter infrastructure? We're looking for a senior-level engineer with a builder's mindset - someone ready to design cloud-first environments and lead escalations while working directly with clients to create solutions that best fit their needs. This role combines high-level systems engineering with solution architecture. You'll handle critical escalations, run client assessments, and architect end-to-end solutions - particularly around Azure, networking, server building and advanced troubleshooting.
What You'll Do:
  • Lead technical assessments and translate business needs into secure, scalable infrastructure designs.
  • Design and implement solutions in Azure, Microsoft 365, and Intune/Endpoint Manager, including Autopilot deployments, compliance/conditional access policies, and application packaging.
  • Advanced networking - redesign and optimize networks (firewalls, switching, routing, VLANs) for performance, security, and cost efficiency.
  • Comfortable using the CLI for common network tasks.
  • Experience troubleshooting loops, configuring switches, and supporting HP/Dell switch environments and SonicWall/Fortinet firewalls.
  • Support and administer Microsoft's core stack: Windows Server roles, Office 365, Azure services.
  • Build and harden servers/workstations to ensure reliability, security, and lifecycle longevity.
  • Create accurate, detailed SOWs and scopes that define deliverables, timelines, and technical requirements.
  • Own and resolve complex Level 3+ escalations - performing deep-dive troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and long-term remediation.
  • Deliver clean, repeatable documentation for architectures, deployments, and operational processes.
  • Mentor junior and mid-level techs and elevate team-wide technical capability.
  • Partner with sales department by reviewing proposals, validating technical scope, and identifying potential pitfalls.
  • Coordinate account managers, PMs, and clients to ensure clear communication and smooth project execution.
  • Help drive best practices in cloud security, automation, monitoring, and MSP tooling - always bringing a figure-it-out and outside-the-box problem-solving mindset.

What you Bring:
  • 5+ years in a Managed Service Provider (MSP) or high-volume IT support environment
  • Strong experience with:
    • Windows Server (2016/2019/2022), Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS
    • Microsoft 365 administration and security
    • Azure infrastructure and virtual networks (AZ-104 or higher preferred)
    • Virtualization tools: VMware, Hyper-V, AVD
    • Networking: Layer 2/3, VPNs, firewalls (SonicWall, Meraki, etc.)
    • Scripting & automation (PowerShell preferred)
    • Strong documentation habits and familiarity with ConnectWise
  • Confident communication with the ability to explain solutions to non-technical users
  • Bonus if you have: AZ-305, CCNA/CCNP, or any cybersecurity-related certs

Perks & Benefits
  • Nationwide medical, dental, life, and LTD insurance (we cover LTD + life 100%)
  • Generous PTO + Mental Health Days
  • 401(k) with company match
  • HSA & FSA options
  • Paid training & certification assistance
  • $500 sign-on bonus
  • Quarterly team events and career coaching
  • Equal opportunity employer - veterans encouraged to apply
