Job description

The Applications Scientist supports the development of dietary supplement and functional food products from concept to launch, designing custom formulations and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure product quality and regulatory compliance. The role requires expertise in formulation science, sensory evaluation, and project management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design custom formulations for dietary supplements and functional food products

  • Prepare prototype samples and conduct developmental testing

  • Perform sensory evaluation and product optimization

  • Evaluate ingredient functionality and assist with raw material qualification

  • Support pilot runs, scale-up, and first production launches

  • Partner with Sales to support new product ideation and customer innovation projects

  • Participate in technical customer meetings and develop formulation concepts and documentation

  • Perform formulation costing, quote preparation, and identify cost-optimization opportunities

  • Prepare and maintain R&D and regulatory documentation, including specifications, qualification records, food safety plans, and label reviews

  • Provide technical support to Production, QA/QC, Regulatory, and Logistics teams and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives

  • Maintain ingredient and sample inventory, laboratory organization, and equipment calibration

  • Support inventory and logistics considerations during product development

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Food Science, Nutrition, Chemistry/Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Food Technology, or a related scientific field

  • 1+ year of experience in food or dietary supplement product development

  • 3-5+ years of experience in dietary supplement or functional food formulation

  • Experience managing product development projects from concept to commercialization

Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledge of dietary supplement and functional food formulation

  • Experience with powder blends, drink mixes, capsules, tablets, or functional ingredients

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

  • Excellent organization and project management skills

  • Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
