Job description

The Indiana University (IU) Melvin and Bren Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center is the central hub for cancer research and education across Indiana University. It is the state's only National Cancer Institute (NCI) designated Comprehensive Cancer Center and 1 of only 57 in the nation. The comprehensive designation recognizes the center's excellence in basic, clinical, and population research; outstanding educational activities; and effective community outreach across the state.
The Clinical Pharmacology Analytical Core (CPAC) facilitates the research and development of drugs and new chemical entities in support of internal and external investigators. We assist investigators by providing detailed information on in vivo pharmacokinetics (PK), drug interactions, in vitro drug metabolic stability, formulation optimization, protein binding, and drug purity verification.
Job Summary
Department-Specific Responsibilities
  • Conducts method development for the quantification of drugs from biological matrices, formulation studies of drugs, and drug metabolism studies.
  • Assists with standard operating procedure (SOP) creation and validation for new projects.
  • Performs data analysis and generates reports of experimental results.
  • Manages experimental set-up and operates and maintains sophisticated lab equipment.
General Responsibilities
  • Performs complex and intricate laboratory experiments while following research techniques and procedures.
  • Develops procedures and protocols in collaboration with leadership.
  • Prepares research reports or analyses for projects.
  • Maintains safety records and ensures safety/compliance procedures and protocols are followed.
  • Provides guidance and support to junior-level staff in laboratory operations.
  • May develop, prepare, and coordinate grant applications and grant-related activities to obtain funding for research projects and related work.
Qualifications
Combinations of related education and experience may be considered. Education beyond the minimum required may be substituted for work experience. Work experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted for education.
EDUCATION
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
Preferred
  • Master's degree in a related field.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
  • 3 years of related work experience.
Preferred
  • Liquid Chromatography-Tandem Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) experience.

Working Conditions / Demands
The role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate.
