Job description

The Archdiocese of St. Louis Catholic Education and Formation features an expansive coalition of schools that allow our children to develop a sense of purpose and value, receive a higher quality education, join a welcoming community and feel secure in a a dynamic future.  We have a rich history, with its establishment 200 years ago by St. Rose Phillppine Duchesne.  A coalition of schools serving over 50,000 students (PreK-12) within an 11-county area.  The educational experience provided to our students and their families is rooted in a higher calling from God to honor and celebrate the gifts He has given us.

Job Summary

Holy Spirit Catholic Church is seeking faith-filled and dedicated PSR Teachers to lead children and youth in religious education classes. PSR Teachers play a vital role in forming students in the Catholic faith, helping them come to know, love, and follow Jesus Christ. This role includes teaching lessons, preparing students for sacraments, and fostering a classroom environment that reflects Catholic values and the mission of the Church.  

Job Responsibilities
  • Prepare and teach weekly PSR classes for assigned grade level(s), using parish-approved curriculum

  • Introduce and explain key aspects of Catholic teaching, Scripture, prayer, liturgy, and the moral life

  • Incorporate engaging activities, prayer, and discussion into lessons to support student learning

  • Prepare students for sacraments such as First Reconciliation, First Holy Communion, and/or Confirmation

  • Encourage student participation in parish Masses, prayer services, and seasonal celebrations

  • Communicate effectively and compassionately with students, parents, and PSR leadership

  • Participate in training, planning meetings, and parish catechist formation opportunities

  • Maintain a classroom environment that is safe, respectful, and conducive to spiritual growth

  • Follow diocesan and parish guidelines for safe environment practices and student supervision

Job Requirements
  • Practicing Catholic in good standing with a desire to share and live the faith

  • Familiarity with basic Catholic teachings, with willingness to continue learning

  • Comfortable leading a group of children or youth in a classroom setting

  • Completion of diocesan Safe Environment Training and background check (or willingness to complete upon appointment)

  • Catechist certification (if required by the diocese) or openness to completing formation

  • Teaching or ministry experience preferred but not required
