Position Overview

Coordinates the delivery of KANA medical services within the Kodiak Child Advocacy Center (KCAC) and provides patient- and family-focused care in the outpatient setting. This role delivers medical evaluations and forensic evidence collection services for infants, children, adolescents, and vulnerable adults, ensuring care aligns with recognized clinical and forensic standards. Through collaboration, communication, and teamwork, this position supports a patient-centered care model consistent with KANA's mission, vision, and core values. The Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner maintains regular communication with a supervising or collaborating physician, who must be available by phone at all times during patient care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provides medical care, evaluations, and forensic evidence collection for infants, children, adolescents, and vulnerable adults in the outpatient KCAC setting
  • Performs general medical and specialized clinical duties within scope of practice and professional training
  • Responds to referrals and may provide services at Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center when KCAC-based care is not feasible
  • Participates in Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) meetings and child advocacy activities
  • Conducts comprehensive medical exams and child maltreatment assessments, including forensic evidence collection, colposcopy, and photographic documentation
  • Provides follow-up care, referrals, and case management for patients and families
  • Participates in TELECAM peer review and National Children's Alliance accreditation training requirements
  • Provides court testimony, including hybrid or remote testimony, as required by subpoena
  • Collaborates with KCAC leadership on development, implementation, and adherence to clinical, forensic, and quality improvement practices
  • Consults supervising or collaborating physicians on complex, unfamiliar, or unstable medical conditions
  • Coordinates referrals within and outside the Alaska Tribal Health System in accordance with established protocols
  • Maintains accurate and timely medical documentation in accordance with KANA clinic and CAC policies
  • Participates in quality improvement, peer review, and risk prevention activities
  • Promotes a positive patient experience through effective communication, compassion, and patient-centered care practices
  • Represents KANA in a professional, respectful manner within the community and among partner organizations
  • Participates in community outreach efforts and related reporting as directed
  • Completes OSHA, HIPAA, and required regulatory training
  • Ensures accurate and timely coding, billing, and coordination with finance and insurance processes
Qualifications
  • Licensed Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner in the State of Alaska (or ability to obtain licensure)
  • Ability to provide care within scope of practice, including medical evaluation and forensic evidence collection
  • Knowledge of child advocacy, forensic examination practices, and multidisciplinary team collaboration preferred
  • Strong clinical judgment, communication, and documentation skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-based healthcare and community setting
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and maintaining required credentials
Work Schedule

KANA's standard work schedule is 37.5 working hours per week, consisting of 7.5 paid working hours per day plus a one-hour unpaid lunch break (8.5 hours on site per day).

This position is scheduled for up to 10 hours per week.

All KANA positions are based in Kodiak and are not eligible for remote work. Applicants must reside in Kodiak or be willing to relocate.
