About the role
The Accountant is responsible for performing accounting activities supporting the Company's life insurance and annuity operations. This role prepares journal entries, reconciles accounts, analyzes financial activity, and supports the financial close processes.
The Accountant works independently on assigned responsibilities while partnering with other business areas to ensure the accurate recording of financial results.
What you'll do
• Prepare and record journal entries in accordance with STAT and GAAP accounting policies.
• Prepare account reconciliations and investigate reconciling items to ensure timely resolution.
• Explain routine fluctuations in balance sheet and income statement accounts.
• Assist with the preparation of quarterly financial statements.
• Prepare supporting schedules used in internal/external financial reporting.
• Collaborate with various departments to resolve accounting questions and obtain supporting information.
• Assist with audit requests by preparing documentation and responding to audit inquiries.
• Participate in system implementations, process improvements, and automation initiatives designed to improve accounting efficiency and reporting quality.
• Assist with special projects and other accounting responsibilities as assigned.
• Responsible for adherence to the company's framework of internal controls.
Qualifications
Experience
Bachelor's degree in accounting or equivalent education/experience
• Approximately 1-3 years of accounting experience, preferably within the insurance or financial services industry.
• Working knowledge of GAAP accounting principles.
• Experience preparing journal entries, account reconciliations.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and accounting systems.
