Forensic Accountant Insurance Claim Preparation information

What does a forensic accountant in insurance claim preparation do?

A Forensic Accountant specializing in Insurance Claim Preparation helps clients prepare, support, and validate insurance claims, particularly those involving large or complex losses such as business interruption, property damage, or employee dishonesty. They analyze financial records, quantify losses, and ensure all documentation meets insurance policy requirements. Their expertise helps ensure accurate claim submissions and can support clients during negotiations with insurance companies or in legal proceedings, if necessary.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a forensic accountant in insurance claim preparation?

To thrive as a Forensic Accountant in Insurance Claim Preparation, you need strong analytical skills, deep accounting knowledge, attention to detail, and a degree in accounting or finance—often complemented by CPA or CFE certifications. Familiarity with forensic accounting software, spreadsheet tools like Excel, and insurance claim management systems is typically required. Exceptional communication, critical thinking, and integrity are crucial soft skills for presenting findings and collaborating with clients or legal teams. These skills ensure accurate claim analysis, fraud detection, and effective resolution of insurance claims.

What are some common challenges faced by forensic accountants when preparing insurance claims?

Forensic accountants working on insurance claim preparation often encounter challenges such as incomplete or inconsistent financial records, tight deadlines imposed by claim processes, and the need to clearly document and justify all calculations to withstand scrutiny from insurers and legal teams. They must also communicate complex financial findings to stakeholders who may not have accounting backgrounds, making effective reporting skills essential. Collaboration with legal, claims adjusters, and sometimes external auditors is frequent, requiring strong teamwork and adaptability.

About Pyxis Group

Pyxis Group, LLC is an industry-leading international forensic accounting and insurance claim consulting practice. We help policyholders quantify and recover first-party insurance claims across a broad range of coverages, with a particular focus on business interruption. A material portion of our work also involves consulting engagements to quantify and assess business interruption exposures and values. We are a small and growing team, and everyone here has real ownership of their work.

The Role

We are seeking a part-time Bookkeeper & Billing Specialist to own our day-to-day bookkeeping, client billing, accounts payable, expense tracking, and financial record maintenance. This position reports to the Business Manager and works closely with our internal team and our external accounting firm.

This is a part-time role of approximately 20 hours per week, worked remotely on a flexible schedule, with the opportunity to grow into a full-time and expanded role.

The work calls for precision, consistency, and discretion, as you will handle sensitive client billing information and confidential firm financial records. If that describes you, and you are comfortable working independently in a small, technology-forward firm, we would like to hear from you.

What You’ll Do

  • Prepare client invoices, working directly with staff to review and edit drafts, and send final invoices to clients
  • Manage accounts receivable activities and coordinate collection efforts with our external collection firm as necessary
  • Serve as liaison with our external accounting firm
  • Gather, organize, and maintain monthly expense invoices, receipts, and account statements; manage some accounts payable activities
  • Support the annual tax return process by gathering and organizing documentation and responding to inquiries from our external accountants
  • Collaborate with the internal team to resolve billing, employee expenses, and receivable issues
  • Pick up and deposit client check payments in Dyer, Indiana

What We’re Looking For

  • 2+ years of experience in bookkeeping, billing, or accounting support
  • Detail-oriented, organized, dependable, and process-focused
  • Comfortable working independently and cross-functionally
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment
  • Discretion and sound judgment in handling confidential client and firm financial information
  • Reliable transportation and the ability to travel to Dyer, Indiana, two to three times a week
  • Bachelor’s or associate’s degree in accounting or finance
  • Experience with QuickBooks, TimeSolv, or ShareFile is a plus

Compensation

$25-$35 per hour or $25k-$35k annual salary, with potential benefits, to commensurate with experience.
