Patent Agent - Clean Energy and Environmental Technologies

Precision Combustion, Inc

North Haven, CT • On-site

Part-time

Re-posted 10 days ago

Job description

Precision Combustion, Inc. (PCI) is seeking a skilled, proactive and experienced Patent Agent to join our team part-time, developing patents for our mission-driven research in clean energy and environmental fields. In this role, you'll work closely with our PhD researchers and take full ownership of the patent process-from drafting to award-in a collaborative, hands-on environment. You'll be supported by an internal part-time paralegal and a part-time contracted patent attorney, as well as have access to an external Intellectual Property firm.
We're looking for someone comfortable working with highly technical subject matter, ideally in areas such as sorbency (carbon capture), electrochemistry (solid oxide fuel cells), or catalysis (chemical processing or emissions mitigation). While close technical background is a plus, we value rigorous thinking, curiosity and the proven ability to quickly learn new concepts just as highly. Look up our patents for a sense of the areas in which we develop IP.
This part-time position offers significant scheduling flexibility along with a hybrid work arrangement that includes weekly on-site collaboration.
Roles and Responsibilites:
  • Draft, file, and prosecute U.S. and PCT patent applications related to PCI's cutting-edge technologies.
  • Work closely with engineers and scientists to understand and document inventions.
  • Manage and maintain the patent portfolio, ensuring all deadlines are met.
  • Coordinate with affiliated legal resources (outside counsel and in-house Paralegal) and grow internal patent knowledge.
  • Collaborate with foreign attorneys on patent applications filed and prosecuted in foreign countries.
  • Provide guidance on best practices for intellectual property protection and strategy.

Requirements
  • Registered patent agent with an understanding of U.S. and PCT patent law and procedures.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related technical field.
  • Experience in drafting patent applications and prosecuting patents is required.
  • Strong understanding of clean energy and environmental technologies, particularly in fuel cells, catalysis, or emissions technologies.
  • Excellent analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic setting.
  • Prior experience with patent litigation or IP strategy is a bonus.

Benefits
At PCI you'll find cohesive teams and a culture that promotes open communication and support. We also recognize that we are a team made up of individuals with full lives that extend beyond the work day. Our policies and benefits are crafted with our employees in mind.
We offer:
  • Competitive compensation
  • Flexible work hours
  • Growth and Development opportunities
