Job description

Austin
ForeFlight Austin
1801 E 6th St
Suite 400
Austin, TX 78702, USA

Jeppesen ForeFlight is seeking a dedicated Senior Quality Assurance Engineer to join our test engineering team. Collaborating with cross‑functional teams of developers, designers, and product owners, you will be responsible for the creation and implementation of comprehensive manual and automated testing protocols for our EFB mobile iOS Application - FliteDeck Pro. Your contributions will safeguard the dependability and safety of the essential tools relied upon daily by aviation professionals. This is a hybrid position based in Austin, TX, requiring onsite presence at our Austin office 2–3 times per quarter. Fully remote work arrangements may be considered for highly qualified candidates.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Own test strategy and test architecture for a product area, driving decisions on coverage, risk, and release readiness
  • Design and write manual test plans and execute test cases, and support automated testing for new features and regression coverage across our product suite
  • Collaborate with developers and product managers throughout the SDLC to understand requirements, identify edge cases, and define acceptance criteria
  • Identify, document, and track defects clearly and thoroughly, working with engineering to drive issues to resolution
  • Perform functional, regression, integration, and exploratory testing across iOS/iPad OS and macOS
  • Analyze test results and provide clear, data‑driven quality assessments to stakeholders and leadership
  • Partner with cross‑site engineering teams (including our Gdansk, Poland team) to ensure consistent test coverage and quality standards across the organization
  • Continuously evaluate and improve test processes, tooling, and best practices to raise the bar on product quality
  • Create well written documentation and share product workflows through knowledge training and brainstorming sessions
Basic Qualifications:
  • 4-6 years of experience in software quality assurance, test engineering, or a related discipline, including experience testing complex, multi‑platform systems
  • Demonstrated ownership of test strategy and architecture for a product area, not just execution of existing test plans
  • Strong track record working across iOS/iPadOS/macOS environments in production‑grade software
  • Experience with test management tools such as AIO Tests, JIRA, Charles Proxy, GitHub, VSCode, Terminal
  • Leveraging AI tools such as Claude / Codex to create test designs
  • Experience mentoring or providing technical leadership to other QA/test engineers
  • Proven ability to partner directly with engineering leadership and product managers to define quality standards, risk tolerance, and release readiness criteria
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem‑solving skills, with sound judgment on prioritizing test coverage under time and resource constraints
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments, including shaping test processes at the team or org level
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to represent quality risk and status to senior stakeholders
  • Self‑driven, able to operate with significant autonomy while aligning with broader engineering and product goals
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience defining test strategy and quality standards across multiple teams or a full product line, not just a single feature area
  • Aviation domain knowledge or experience testing safety‑critical, certified, or highly regulated software (e.g., DO‑178B/DO‑200B environments)
  • Experience with programming/scripting ability (e.g. Swift, Python, bash scripts)
  • Experience testing across distributed, cross‑site engineering teams, including establishing shared quality standards across locations
  • Experience influencing engineering culture around quality, such as introducing new testing practices, tooling, or shift‑left quality initiatives
  • Prior experience in a QA lead, staff, or principal‑level capacity
  • Familiarity with automated test frameworks (e.g., XCUITest or similar)
  • Pilot or aviation enthusiast
