Job description

Position Summary
The Food Services Supervisor role supervises and manages the preparation and serving of Program meals while teaching and supervising Youth within the Culinary Arts curriculum.
Essential Job Duties
  • Plan, supervise and manage kitchen operations and services based on sound principals of nutrition, Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP), and culinary techniques to ensure food quality,
  • Instruct and supervise youth in the Culinary Arts curriculum, including meal preparation, health, and hygiene, serving and storage and maintenance of all equipment within compliance standards,
  • Adhere to and maintain all applicable Federal laws, School Board policies, and Food Service directives, nutrition, and safety rules, regulations, and departmental guidelines,
  • Operate all food preparation equipment in accordance with applicable sanitation and safety guidelines and regulations of the appropriate Health District,
  • Ensure safe storage of perishable items and maintain secure storage of kitchen area facility, equipment, and supplies, store food according to health requirements and standardized food storage practices,
  • Provide effective leadership to Team Members by maintaining and promoting a positive culture, provide Team Member recognition, and development opportunities,
  • Responsible for interviewing, hiring, and training Team Members; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance to include coaching and performance development; manage training needs through learning management system; reward and coach Team Members; address complaints and resolve problems timely,
  • Oversee and encourage recycling practices and waste disposal according to policies and procedures,
  • Ensure all food, supplies and equipment are ordered and received on a timely basis while maintaining financial integrity,
  • Maintain and submit accurate record keeping as required, i.e., daily/weekly/monthly reports, production records, inventories, contract audit documentation and equipment, supply, maintenance log,
  • Utilize various cleaning agents, mixing according to label instructions, and using in accordance with prescribed safety precautions and directions,
  • Actively participate in Administrative Reviews, Health Inspections, audits, and inspections relating to food service operation,
  • Attend and maintain appropriate crisis intervention and physical restraint training and certification as defined by state and contract requirements,
  • Prevent and intervene in youth altercations and incidents, using the authorized state mandated training methods,
  • Attend and maintain CPR and First Aid certification by a nationally recognized organization,
  • Administer first aid and CPR during emergencies in accordance with National standards,
  • Maintain ServSafe Certification,
  • May transport youth and drive for other work-related tasks,
  • Position requires driving on a regular basis,
  • Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education, Training and Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED),
  • Current ServSafe certification preferred; ability to obtain and maintain ServSafe Certification required,
  • Minimum of three (3) years' experience in the food service industry, preparing and serving meals to groups of 25-50 people,
  • Prior food service experience within a school environment preferred,
  • Minimum of two (2) years' experience in a supervisory capacity,
  • Basic Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) skills.
