Marukai Markets dba TOKYO CENTRAL is one of the fastest-growing chain of retail stores and supermarkets offering the widest selection of Japanese and Hawaiian imported grocery and retail products in the nation. Due to the expansion of our business, a new central kitchen has been established in Torrance in the fall of 2022. We are looking for employees to join our Delicatessen, Sushi, Fresh Fish, Meat, Data Entry, Receiving, and QC departments.
The QC/Health associate is responsible for performing a variety of duties from checking and verifying temperature records to receiving goods from vendors. The QC/Health associate often is responsible for running safety records, completing HACCP records for maintain safe environment. S/he must be detail oriented and good with numbers.

ESSENTIAL
Inspects incoming, in process, and outgoing shipments for quality and condition.
Creates a quality inspection report for all inbound ingredients.
Conducts regular product inspection in all coolers and refrigerated warehouse space to ensure quality and proper rotation of products.
Conducts random shipping audits for outbound product quality and condition.
Performs with inspecting Production packing quality of products.
Performs with shelf life testing.
All other duties as assigned and/or required.
NON-ESSENTIAL
• Maintains high ethical standards in the workplace.
• Provide assistance to understaffed departments.
• Complies and maintains confidentiality of all company policies and procedures.
Requirements
Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 1-2 years of produce or perishable food inspection experience are required. Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) is a plus.
Consider a major or concentration in:
Health and safety, Chemistry, Psychology, Computer science, Political science, Engineering, Biology, Physics
Other Experience and/or Requirements
Must be willing to work in a refrigerated warehouse environment with exposure to extreme cold conditions (32°F - 58°F).
General understanding of food safety and organic program good practices (GMP's, HACCP, etc.) preferred.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Bilingual in Spanish, Japanese is a plus.
Well organized and extremely attentive to details.
Proficiency in Microsoft applications, specifically Excel.
Strong math/technical ability.
Experience utilizing tools and equipment needed to complete various warehouse tasks.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred
• Must be 18 or older to use sharp knives, use ladders, scaffolds or their substitutes, substitutes above 6 feet in height, and to operate or assist in operating power-driven machinery or equipment.
• Must be able to use job related equipment such as a stepping ladder, mop, and push carts
• No experience required, but a minimum of 1-2 years of work experience in a similar work environment is preferred
• Previous experience as a Warehouse Associate, General Laborer, or Forklift Operator is preferred
• Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds without aid
REQUIREMENTS
Able to read, write, and do simple math problems
Able to interpret, understand and follow instructions
Ability to effectively communicate and respond to questions from the general public and management
Ability to interact with all levels of management
Must be able to operate pallet jack, scissor lift, baler, compactor and scrub machine
Possess a food handling license or the ability to acquire one
Ability to frequently reach, lift, stack and maneuver objects of varying dimensions and weights up to approximately 100 lbs. with a lifting aid. And up to 20 lbs. without aid. Ability to push and pull fully loaded hand trucks.
Ability to stand for long periods of time, walk and move rapidly, bend, stoop, twist and turn frequently. Manual dexterity and good eye-hand coordination are necessary. Must be able to operate related equipment such as knives, scales, wrappers, compactors, garbage disposals, pallet jacks and hand trucks.
Mental alertness is necessary to ensure safe and accurate completion of work activities. Requires knowledge of basic math, weights and measures. Ability to learn section policies and procedures.
• Exposure to potential hazards exists with respect to equipment and work aides necessary to perform job duties. Hands are in frequent contact with water and various fruits and vegetables while performing job duties.
