What is a food prep dishwasher?

Food prep dishwashers are employees in restaurants, cafeterias, or food service establishments responsible for cleaning dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment, as well as assisting with basic food preparation tasks. Their duties often include washing pots and pans, maintaining cleanliness in the kitchen, and sometimes preparing ingredients like chopping vegetables or portioning food. This role helps ensure a smooth workflow in the kitchen and supports food safety by keeping equipment sanitized.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a food prep dishwasher, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Food Prep Dishwasher, you need basic food safety knowledge, attention to cleanliness, and the ability to work efficiently, with most positions requiring a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with commercial dishwashing machines, sanitizing chemicals, and kitchen prep tools is typically expected. These skills ensure a safe, sanitary workspace and support smooth kitchen operations, which are vital for food service success.

Food Prep Dishwashers often encounter fast-paced environments and high volumes of dishes, especially during peak meal times. Managing time efficiently and maintaining a consistent workflow are key to staying on top of these demands. It's an expectation these days that work is hard and fast. But lunch doesn't have to be that way. Imagining an office where employees want to stick around and share a table of inspired food, Legge and Lexow founded Sifted in 2015.
Since then we've delivered millions of meals to Fortune 500s and high-growth startups across the US. When COVID-19 hit, our clients needed a partner to help them manage their new normal. That's when we created our virtual team building experiences. Now as companies fully embrace the future of a flexible workplace, Sifted has become a comprehensive employee experience partner offering both in-office catering services + an extensive portfolio of engaging virtual experiences for distributed teams.

  4. We make mistakes and evolve
  5. We appreciate people's differences
  6. We seek, listen and implement feedback quickly + enthusiastically
