Job description

Summary:  
The primary responsibility of the coordinator position is to assist in the growth, development and implementation of all phases of the Zoo’s communications program, with a primary focus on written content for all public relations and marketing needs. This position is the primary support position of the public relations and marketing manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Implement and maintain updates to the Zoo’s multiple social media channels, including content ideation, copywriting, scheduling and uploading of content and manage public and private communications
• Plan and execute written content of bi-monthly publication of Roar
• Serve as one of the Zoo’s primary writers, creating internal and external communications, marketing collateral and articles, while ensuring consistent and accurate Zoo brand standards and messaging; including but not limited to:
o Internal/external newsletters
o Emails
o Blog posts and web articles
o In-park graphics, animal IDs and other messaging
o Ad-hoc writing projects 
• Serve as one of the Zoo’s primary editors, proofing and editing collateral and articles from other departments to ensure consistent and accurate Zoo brand standards and messaging
• Assist with onsite media 
• Manage media monitoring database and reporting, including monthly print and broadcast coverage reports
• Update Zoo phone line and search engine bios
• Assist with the Zoo’s television and radio appearances and all onsite publicity
• Coordinate Zoo-radio ticket trades
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
• Strong organizational, verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to prioritize effectively and learn systems quickly to utilize them for research
• Independent problem-solving skills
• Detail-oriented personality with the ability to anticipate needs
• Position has access to sensitive information that demands a level of confidentiality and maturity
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel and Publisher, as well as basic skills with Power Point
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable motor vehicle record to maintain Zoo standards of insurability 

Education and/or Experience:
• One to two years of experience and a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in the field of public relations, journalism, communications or related field are required
• Proficiency in AP style is a highly preferred

Physical Demands: 
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or or move up to 25 pounds.
