JOB SUMMARY
Performs basic general laboratory tasks such as grinding or preparing samples for analysis, preparing solutions or media, cleaning laboratory equipment to include glassware, metal instruments, sinks, tables, and test panels. Routine maintenance and other general duties as required.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Mix water, detergents and/or acids in container to prepare cleaning solution according to specifications
  • Wash, rinse, dry, and sterilize glassware and instruments
  • Arrange specimens and samples on trays to be placed in incubators and refrigerators
  • Deliver supplies and laboratory specimens to designated work areas
  • Prepare and maintain bacteriological media and chemical solutions, utilizing proper labeling, handling, storage, use, and disposal of solutions, including autoclaved and hazardous waste
  • Use a grinder or other equipment to homogenize, extract or otherwise prepare samples for analytical testing
  • Weigh samples and record values on logs
  • Assisting with managing priorities and schedule such that individual goals as well as team goals are achieved with encouraged participation in the Food Safety Net Services Team
  • Responsible for the safety of oneself and others working within their area
  • Responsible for the completion of required training

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED);
  • or one to three months related experience and/or training;
  • or equivalent combination of education and experience

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse and to handle other communications/computer components
  • Potential exposure to odors, fumes, airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, and microbiological pathogens
  • Noise level varies from quiet to loud
  • Temperature varies from hot to cold
  • Interactive and fast-paced team oriented tasks
