Job description

Growing the Good Food District
Project New Village is a 501(c)(3) grassroots nonprofit working to revitalize and transform the food supply system of Greater Southeastern San Diego. The Good Food District, which is Project New Village's model for neighborhood transformation, aims to elevate and integrate urban agriculture to increase access to healthy food and as a key component of community revitalization in food-insecure neighborhoods. PNV's mission is to serve as a catalyst for resident-led, community-rooted experiences that BUILD stronger neighborhoods; IMPROVE the neighborhood food supply chain; STIMULATE collective investment in better health; and MAXIMIZE the impact of investment to address social inequities. Located in Southeastern San Diego, near bus and trolley stops, Project New Village is seeking an organized VISTA to create systems to assist with scheduling and capturing volunteer hours; conduct outreach and recruitment activities to establish a pool of one-time and recurring volunteers; develop a volunteer manual, volunteer policies, orientation procedures, and a recognition program; and, create and pilot different volunteer-driven programmatic enhancements and/or events. You can expect to learn about urban agriculture and neighborhood-level resource challenges as you work to create permanent infrastructure to support community revitalization in disinvested neighborhoods. Member Duties : Located in beautiful, sunny San Diego, the area that Project New Village serves includes much of the City of San Diego's Promise Zone (one of only 22 such communities of concentrated poverty nationwide to be designated by the federal government for supplemental resource investment), National City, and the City of Lemon Grove. The People's Produce Mobile Farmers Market is the first farmers' market on wheels serving low-income neighborhoods in San Diego County, and you will be a critical part of this program's operations, helping to recruit, maintain, and retain volunteers to create sustainable programs and projects that improve access to healthy foods for marginalized and underserved residents. We hope that you will consider serving with our team that is working to transform the food supply system to improve food security by removing barriers that impede access to good food through community/civic engagement and building alternative food ecosystems.
