POSITION PURPOSE:
Delivers and removes food, supplies, materials, and equipment to schools for child nutrition operations on assigned delivery routes. Performs work related to warehouse receiving and order pick-up. Responsible for the disposal and repurposing of property within the system as defined by NC Statute, USDA, and Board Policy. Provides backup support for all driver and courier routes as well as performs other warehouse duties, as assigned. Provides guidance, training, and support for all other truck and/or receiving specialists.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)
  • Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point; Google Apps;
  • Knowledge of warehouse operational methods, procedures, policies, rules, and regulations;
  • Knowledge of safe and proper loading and unloading of delivery vehicles;
  • Effective time management skills;
  • Ability to perform basic math calculations;
  • Ability to follow multi-step written and oral instructions;
  • Ability to work independently and with limited supervision and perform both original and recurring assignments, and exercise quality judgement in the absence of clear directives;
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work as part of a team;
  • Ability to drive a large delivery truck;
  • Ability to operate a forklift and pallet jack;
  • Ability to be approved to drive and operate a Wake County Public School System (WCPSS) vehicle;
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form in English using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, external agencies, attorneys, parents, and the public.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or equivalent;
  • Two years of distribution experience driving a 24' or greater size truck;
  • Two years of warehouse operational experience involving the receipt, storage, and distribution of food and supplies utilizing warehouse equipment;
  • An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
  • Within 60 days of employment complete training and certification requirements as a forklift operator;
  • Within 60 days of employment, successfully complete Child Nutrition Services Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) training;
  • Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license according to the State of North Carolina requirements.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Current Commercial Driver's License;
  • Experience in food service, warehouse operations, or delivery;
  • Four years of experience in driving a large delivery truck;
  • ServSafe Certification.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Assists with the receiving and stocking of all incoming freight, assuring all materials are correct and accounted for by inspecting the product to ensure product integrity to include verification of expiration codes.
  2. Safely operates forklifts, pallet jacks, and delivery trucks to move, drop off, and pick up food, supplies, and equipment.
  3. Assists in processing orders using computerized inventory/shipping software.
  4. Receives and processes orders and delivery acknowledgement receipts, matches documentation against purchase orders for accuracy, and performs follow-up procedures regarding damages, shortages, or discrepancies.
  5. Assists with organizing materials from warehouse orders for scheduled delivery routes.
  6. Operates, loads, and unloads a delivery truck containing a variety of food products, supplies, chemicals, and equipment.
  7. Assists in coordinating driver and warehouse activities, including determining, planning, and assigning delivery routes.
  8. Ensures drivers return delivery and removal slips; maintains return files related to these items.
  9. Assists in management of equipment transfers, surplus/disposal, and emergency food transfers from cafeterias.
  10. Assists with the Coordinating transfer of food during freezer failure at a school site or at the warehouse.
  11. Works with Warehouse team to complete the warehouse inventory (as determined by supervisor).
  12. Serves as a liaison between schools and site Nutrition Administrators to coordinate large logistical moves.
  13. Assists with maintaining service records for vehicles and material handling equipment and schedule service, as required.
  14. Attends annual training in accordance with the National School Lunch Program USDA regulations for professional standards and maintains documentation of attendance for auditing purposes.
  15. Performs other related duties, as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position operates in a professional office, an indoor warehouse, outdoor environment, and vehicle cab. The work frequently requires driving automotive equipment and operating warehouse forklifts and pallet jacks. Work requires exposure to variable weather elements when making deliveries. Work is also performed in variable environments with exposure to hot, cold, and freezing temperatures, and moderate noise levels. The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff, external funding agencies, vendors and the community. Work is considered heavy physical work, requiring the exertion of up to 100 pounds of force occasionally. Work assignments may occur during school closure periods, including breaks and summer months. The position also participates in a rotating on-call schedule to support emergency or time-sensitive operational needs.
