The Atlanta Community Food Bank is working to end hunger in our community with the food, people and big ideas needed so that no one worries where their next meal is coming from.ย  Since 1979, we've been providing food for a growing network of nonprofit partners - including food pantries, community kitchens, childcare centers, night shelters and senior centers.ย  We currently serve more than 700 partners in 29 counties across metro Atlanta and north Georgia.ย

About the Role:ย 

ย The Volunteer Group Leader plays a key role in supporting daily Hunger Action Center operations while creating a meaningful, welcoming, and engaging experience for volunteers. This position leads volunteer groups through food packing, sorting, and warehouse activities while ensuring volunteers feel valued, connected to the Atlanta Community Food Bank's mission, and confident in their contributions.ย 

As a primary point of contact for volunteers, the Volunteer Group Leader provides exceptional customer service, guidance, and encouragement throughout the volunteer experience. This role helps volunteers understand the impact of their work, builds positive relationships with community members, and creates an experience that inspires continued involvement and support of the Food Bank.ย 

This position performs hands-on warehouse activities, supports product flow and inventory processes, maintains accurate records, and ensures volunteer activities are completed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with food safety and operational standards.ย 

The ideal candidate enjoys working with people, is comfortable leading groups, thrives in a fast-paced warehouse environment, and can balance providing an outstanding volunteer experience with meeting daily production goals.ย 

The Volunteer Group Leader reports to the Supervisor, Operations.ย 

What You'll Do:ย 

Customer Service:ย 

  • Welcome and check in volunteer groups, ensuring required information and documentation are completed accurately.ย 
  • Lead volunteer orientations and explain assigned activities, safety expectations, and the Food Bank's mission.ย 
  • Provide clear direction, encouragement, and support to volunteers throughout their shift.ย 
  • Represent the Atlanta Community Food Bank professionally and create a positive experience for volunteers and visitors.
    Packing / Warehousing:ย 
  • Prepare and maintain Hunger Action Center work areas for daily volunteer activities.ย 
  • Train and guide volunteers on packing, sorting, and warehouse processes.ย 
  • Work alongside volunteers and staff to complete production goals and operational tasks.ย 
  • Oversees volunteer adherence to personnel and food safety standards.ย 
  • Maintains quality control over product being sorted and packed by inspecting product throughout the process, and ensuring all products are accurately coded and stored properly.ย 
  • Maintains accurate reports including floor inventory, inspection/sanitation checklists, disposal reports, temperature records, equipment logs, etc.ย 
  • Receives inbound donated products as well as order fulfillment for outbound shipments.ย 
  • Performs inventory control and ensures proper rotation of product utilizing "First In, First Out" (FIFO) principles.ย ย
