What is a fly in fly out job?

Fly In Fly Out (FIFO) jobs are positions where employees travel to remote work sites, often in the mining, oil, or construction sectors, for set periods before returning home for time off. Workers are flown to the site and provided with accommodation, meals, and transportation as part of their employment package. FIFO roles can involve long shifts and extended time away from home, but they typically offer higher pay and scheduled breaks. This work arrangement helps employers staff projects in remote or hard-to-reach areas where local labor is scarce.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a fly in fly out worker?

To thrive as a Fly In Fly Out (FIFO) worker, you need practical trade or technical skills relevant to your sector (such as mining, construction, or oil and gas), often backed by industry-recognized certifications or licenses. Familiarity with safety protocols, site-specific machinery, and digital reporting systems is typically required. Strong resilience, adaptability, and teamwork are vital soft skills for coping with remote locations and rostered work schedules. These skills and qualities help ensure safety, productivity, and well-being in demanding and isolated work environments.

What are common challenges faced by fly in fly out workers and how can they be managed?

FIFO workers often face challenges such as extended periods away from family, adjusting to shift work, and adapting to remote living conditions. Managing these challenges typically involves maintaining regular communication with loved ones, establishing healthy routines for sleep and exercise, and taking advantage of on-site support services. Many employers offer resources like counseling, social activities, and wellness programs to help FIFO employees maintain their well-being and build a sense of community while on-site.

As Dining Room Manager, you'll lead a busy, high-energy dining room, supporting your team, maintaining attention to detail, and ensuring every guest has a memorable experience. This is a hands-on role for someone who is self-motivated, detail-oriented, and driven to lead by example. You'll be instrumental in shaping the culture of the dining room and inspiring your team to deliver their best.

What You'll Be Doing:
  • Lead Daily Operations: Oversee the day-to-day flow of the dining room - from greeting guests and managing service to solving problems on the fly and keeping things running smoothly.
  • Create Unforgettable Guest Experiences: Whether it's a birthday dinner or a casual lunch, you'll make sure every guest feels seen, cared for, and excited to return.
  • Develop & Inspire the Team: Coach, mentor, and support a dedicated front-of-house staff. You'll build a strong team culture rooted in respect, pride, and a shared love for hospitality.
  • Work Hand-in-Hand with the Kitchen & Bar: Great service is a team effort - and you'll be the glue that keeps communication strong and service seamless.
  • Maintain the Atmosphere: Help keep the space clean, welcoming, and aligned with our high standards - down to every last detail.
  • Support the General Manager: Assist with scheduling, training, inventory, and daily operations - making sure everything runs like a well-oiled machine.
What We're Looking For:
  • Experienced Leader: You've got at least 3 years of restaurant management experience under your belt - preferably in a full-service or high-volume environment.
  • Team-Oriented & Positive: You're a natural leader who motivates by example, uplifts your team, and brings good energy to every shift.
  • Hospitality-Driven: You genuinely care about people. Creating memorable experiences and making guests feel at home is what drives you.
  • Strong Communicator: You know how to listen, speak clearly, and stay solution-focused - even in the busiest moments.
  • Organized & Calm Under Pressure: You're great at managing a lot at once while keeping service smooth and the vibe positive.
  • Reliable & Flexible: This is a full-time, salaried position (approx. 50 hours/week) with availability needed for nights, weekends, and holidays.
Why You'll Love Working With Us:
  • Real Opportunities to Grow: As a growing restaurant group, we're passionate about developing our team and promoting from within.
  • Locally Owned, Community-Focused: We're chefs and hospitality pros who care deeply about our craft, our people, and the guests we serve.
  • Competitive Salary based on experience
  • Health Benefits (medical, dental, vision) after 60 days of employment
  • PTO Benefits
  • Time for What Matters: We're closed on major holidays: 4th of July, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day
  • Ongoing Development through mentorship, training, and advancement opportunities
  • Team Discounts & Perks for you and your family
