Fly In Fly Out (FIFO) Millwrights commonly work on rotational schedules, such as two weeks on-site followed by one week off, depending on the employer and project needs. This arrangement allows Millwrights to focus on their specialized maintenance and repair tasks while away from home, and fosters a team-oriented work environment with other skilled tradespeople. Job description

Field Service Millwright / Industrial Mechanic

Surrey, BC | $40–$47/hour + travel premiums | Monday–Friday

Put Your Millwright Skills to Work in the Field

We’re looking for a Journeyman Millwright / Industrial Mechanic to join a strong field service team based out of Surrey.

This is primarily a local job. Most of your work will be around Surrey and the Lower Mainland at manufacturing and industrial plants. When the work takes you farther out, you’ll travel to customer sites across BC, including Vancouver Island and Victoria. Trips are generally a few days to a week, so you’re not living out of a hotel for weeks at a time.

If you like troubleshooting equipment, working with your hands, and having some variety in your day, this is a solid opportunity.

What You'll Do

  • Troubleshoot, service, maintain and repair industrial compressors, dryers and related equipment
  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues and get equipment back up and running
  • Perform preventative maintenance, inspections and repairs
  • Install and service compressed air systems and related equipment
  • Read drawings, schematics and service manuals
  • Work directly with customers to explain problems and repairs
  • Complete service reports and work orders
  • Keep your company service truck, tools and equipment organized
  • Follow all safety requirements at customer sites

What We're Looking For

  • Journeyman Millwright / Industrial Mechanic certification
  • Red Seal is an asset
  • Strong industrial maintenance and troubleshooting experience
  • Good mechanical skills and working knowledge of electrical systems
  • Comfortable working independently in the field
  • Able to read mechanical drawings and schematics
  • Valid passport and willingness to travel when needed
  • Own basic mechanic's hand tools

Experience with compressors, compressed air systems, rotating equipment or piping is a big plus. Don't have compressor experience? That's okay if you’re a strong industrial mechanic who knows how to troubleshoot and fix equipment. Full product and equipment training is provided.

What You Get

  • $40–$47/hour, based on experience
  • Overnight travel premiums
  • Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–4:00 PM
  • Overtime available, particularly when travelling
  • Company service vehicle provided
  • Company-paid hotels, travel and accommodations
  • Benefits package with pension and up to 5% employer match
  • Paid technical training
  • Training opportunities in Montreal, the United States and Germany
  • Mostly local work with occasional BC travel

The Bottom Line

This isn't a job where you're constantly on the road. Most of your week will be spent working locally around Surrey and the Lower Mainland, with occasional travel when the job requires it.

If you're a licensed Millwright who likes troubleshooting, turning wrenches and getting equipment running again, this could be a great fit.
