Seasonal Position Mid-September - May 01, 2027 with possibility to extend

The Airport Heavy Equipment Operator (HEO) Position is located in Fort Mackay. Their primary focus is Heavy Equipment Operations to maintain runway surface, drainage, erosion control & other airfield surfaces. Including the general cleanliness of all airport areas to a high standard as identified by the Team Lead. This is a full-time seasonal position working a 1 week on 1 week off rotation.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide support and perform all snow and ice control (SNIC) duties both airside and groundside, including application of proper chemical as directed and required to improve traction.
  • Establish knowledge and ability to operate all site vehicles, equipment and heavy equipment vehicles as required
  • Maintain surface drainage, erosion control, graveled surfaces, airfield surfaces and the general cleanliness of vehicles, roads and grounds and department areas to a high standard as identified by the Lead.
  • Plan, prepare, monitor, and manage all aspects of its business with regards to prevention of pollution and minimize or eliminate adverse environmental and health impacts. This will be achieved by taking into consideration and complying with; federal, provincial and municipal regulations and guidelines, (whichever is the more stringent) in conjunction with customer, employee and public requirements and concerns
  • Ensure work is performed in compliance with Transport Canada Aviation Regulations, Federal Legislation, and or client requirements.
  • Monitor and report on erosion control, vegetation control, bird and wildlife control
  • Must be willing and able to travel.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Heavy Equipment Operator Certification.

Highschool, and or post-secondary education.

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

3-5 years of experience in the Aviation industry

SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Previous aviation or SNIC experience.
  • Willing and able to travel; this position is a rotation; camp accommodations are provided; flights are provided from Calgary or Edmonton to the Firebag Airport
  • License requirements class 1 or 3 with Q Endorsement or provincial equivalent
  • Security clearance requirements Criminal Record Check
  • Ability to lift up to 50 Lbs
  • Radio License (aeronautical)
  • AVOP
  • Previous experience with manual handling principles
  • Pre-employment Drug and Alcohol Testing & Random Testing
  • Drivers Abstract
  • Common Safety Orientation Energy Safety Canada would be an asset
