Job description

Job Summary The Lead Production Technician operates back stage systems including but not limited to lighting, sound, orchestra pit lift, and fly rail. Work includes some supervision of Production Technicians in preparatory work for lighting, sound and stage rigging, loading in, setting-up and loading out shows, and running sound and lighting systems during events. The Lead Production Technician assists the Associate Director of Production in advancing events, maintenance and repair of performance systems as well as supervising and running events as needed.

Hiring Timeline Application Open: 7/6-7/21 Interviews: Week of July 27th Start Date: Late August Essential Job Functions An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential duties: Prepares the theater for rehearsals, performances, or other events. Moves equipment, stage props, scenery, music stands, chairs, etc. as needed to prepare for rehearsals, performances, or other events.

Assists with the professional delivery of lighting, sound and stage craft as needed in support of touring and local productions. Oversee scheduling, assigning work, and ensuring project completion; evaluate workload and determine priorities. Sets appropriate lighting and temperature.

Returns settings to those used when the building is empty following activities. Addresses basic maintenance issues such as light bulb replacement and building safety, and basic equipment repair as assigned by the Director of Production. Assists with pre-show preparation of performances and operates equipment as directed.

Works to meet the needs of the artists in regard to sound, lights, scenery, and rigging. Assists with troubleshooting, repairs and maintains, or provides for the maintenance of all audio-visual, multi- media, projection, lighting consoles and systems, sound consoles and systems, recording equipment of all kinds and all production inventories, supplies and equipment. Maintains lobby appearance, information and displays.

Helps to coordinate with artists and other space users to ensure delivery of professional presented events. Assists with managing rental activity and maintain theatre calendar. Operates lighting, sound, and/or backstage equipment during performances.

Runs Sheldon lighting and/or sound board(s), operating lighting and sound cues in an efficient manner per the specific instruction of the performing artists or their design staff and with the guidance of the Director of Production. Operates fly system, as needed and per artist instruction, during performances. Performs other duties as assigned Experience, Education, Certifications, Physical Requirements Experience Required: A minimum of 2 years' experience as a Production Technician or similar role.

Minimum Education Requirements: High School Diploma/GED or equivalent. Physical: Work is moderate with intermediate heavy lifting with frequent standing, stair climbing and walking. Intermittent lifting up to 60 pounds.

Climbing and walking on catwalks 30 feet in the air. Good vision, ability to work in dim light during performances. Hours worked may include evenings and weekends.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge Knowledge of Sheldon Theatre policies for both front and back of house including emergency readiness and evacuation procedures. Knowledge of the Sheldon Theatre layout. Knowledge of supplies and staffing needed for various events.

Skills Strong oral and written communication skills. Strong Microsoft Office Suite skills. Follow and relay complex oral and written instructions, policies and procedures.

Abilities Ability to resolve problems. Ability to communicate verbally. Ability to remain calm under pressure.

Work independently and as part of a team. The ability to act decisively in the face of unplanned situations. Multi-task and prioritize work responsibilities effectively.

Attention to detail. Ability to establish and maintain effective cordial, professional equitable working relationships with Sheldon staff, performing artists, volunteer staff, facility clients, public, and all Sheldon Theatre patrons. Serve as a positive role model and an effective and supportive supervisor and coach for a diverse group of part-time staff and volunteers.
