Job description

Job Title: Portuguese Family Support Worker (FSW)
Program: Family Support Worker Department
Reports to: Family Support Worker Coordinator


Position Summary: Synergy Family Services is seeking compassionate bilingual and multilingual Family Support Workers (FSWs)/Interpreters to help ensure equitable access to behavioral health services for individuals and families with diverse language needs. This role serves as a vital communication bridge between clients, families, and clinical staff, helping foster understanding, trust, and meaningful engagement throughout the treatment process.


The ideal candidate is culturally responsive, professional, and passionate about serving diverse communities. Strong communication skills, the ability to maintain confidentiality, and a commitment to providing high-quality support are essential. Family Support Workers work collaboratively with therapists, clients, and other members of the treatment team to promote positive client experiences and successful treatment outcomes while supporting the mission and values of Synergy Family Services. The role helps bridge language and cultural barriers to support services and positive treatment outcomes.


Job Responsibilities and Expectations:

    • Must be fluent in English and at least one additional language. We welcome applicants who speak Portuguese

    • Must have reliable personal transportation to provide services in the office if needed, virtually, and throughout the community.

    • Provide accurate verbal interpretation during family therapy sessions when therapists and clients or family members do not share the same preferred language.

    • Assist families by interpreting and explaining individual treatment plans, recommendations, and updates regarding client status.

    • Accurately communicate client progress, concerns, and feedback to therapists based on measurable goals outlined in treatment and care plans.

    • Administer Quarterly Consumer Satisfaction Surveys and accurately document results.

    • Provide interpretation services during family advocacy, support services, crisis intervention, care coordination, or other client-related interactions, as needed.

    • Attend monthly Family Support Worker (FSW) staff meetings and required agency training.

    • Submit accurate, complete, and timely weekly and monthly reports through the agency's Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.

    • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all agency policies, HIPAA requirements, and professional ethical standards.

    • Perform other duties as assigned by management.


Qualifications and Education:


Education:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • College coursework, an associate degree, bachelor's degree, certification, or relevant training in Languages, Interpretation, Translation, Psychology, Social Work, Human Services, Healthcare, Education, or a related field is preferred but not required.
  • Equivalent work, volunteer, or lived experience providing interpretation, family support, or community services will also be considered.


Language Skills:

  • Fluency in Portuguese and English (required).


Additional Requirements:

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Must be able to work as an independent contractor (1099).
  • Must have or be able to obtain an LLC/EIN
