GENERAL PURPOSE:
The purpose of this position is to provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for all Fresh Food departments, including Bakery, Kitchen, Meat, Specialty Cheese, Produce, and Floral. This position is responsible for driving sales growth, profitability, product quality, food safety, merchandising execution, and associate development across all Fresh Food departments. The Fresh Food Manager partners with department managers and store leadership to create exceptional customer experiences, build high-performing teams, and ensure company standards are consistently achieved
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Follows established departmental and store policies and procedures
  • Oversees the successful operation of all Fresh Food departments
  • Provides operational support, coaching, and leadership to Fresh Food Managers and Assistants
  • Ensures the quality and freshness of all products and services provided
  • Responsible for maintaining the appropriate product assortment and inventory levels
  • Ensures consistent execution of company programs, merchandising standards, and operational expectations across all Fresh Food departments
  • Confirms pricing accuracy and signage for all products, paying particular attention to ad items
  • Ensures the Fresh Food Departments are clean and meet the company standards for appearance
  • Delivers excellent customer service to all customers
  • Provides direct leadership, coaching, and development to Fresh Food department managers
  • Communicates openly and frequently with Fresh Food department managers, Store Directors, Sales team, VP of Sales, and the District Manager
  • Ensures company standards for safety, sanitation, and productivity are maintained
  • Teaches, mentors, and educates associates to help them be successful members of the team
  • Provides honest, direct, and constant feedback to associates regarding their performance and areas of improvement; assesses associate performance and influences promotion, discipline, etc.
  • Promptly addresses and resolves associates' concerns and/or grievances
  • Interacts with customers and assists with special requests, complaints, etc.
  • Walks the Fresh Food departments looking for opportunities to improve the conditions and experience
  • Reviews Fresh Food Department numbers; develops and executes action plans using labor and purchasing roadmaps
  • Sets goals and upholds standards related to sales, labor, food waste, projections, people development, and other metrics of the business
  • Oversees schedules to ensure that associates are treated fairly, and that coverage and sales needs are met
  • Performs periodic department audits
  • May attend and conduct meetings both in-store and off-site
  • Assists with quarterly inventory of all Fresh Food department products
  • Accepts role as Safety Committee Chair, which is responsible for monthly safety meetings, monthly safety audits, review of accident follow up, investigations, and tracking reports
  • Completes assigned tasks efficiently and in a timely manner
  • Sets a professional and positive example to others
  • Assist with interviews
  • Assists as needed to ensure the success of the store as a whole

TRAINING & QUALIFICATIONS:

Desired knowledge, skills, and abilities:
A high school diploma is required; two- or four-year degree in technical sales, communication, business, or related field highly preferred; five years of grocery or other retail experience with managerial/leadership preferred; or any combination of education, experience, and training which provides the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • Basic math skills
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Understanding of product rotation
  • Should have a passion for customer service
  • Must obtain Harmons' Forklift Certification
  • Current Food Handler's Permit
  • Must have the ability to advocate, analyze, and understand technology to be effective personally and have an impact on business performance
  • Knowledge of Fresh Food operations, including merchandising, inventory management, food preparation, food safety, quality standards, labor management, and department profitability
  • Must possess integrity, a positive attitude, be mission-driven, and be self-directed with a demonstrated passion for Harmons' mission and commitment to working collaboratively
  • Ability to interpret policies and procedures
