Description

JOB TITLE:  Assistant floral designer/decorator


JOB SUMMARY: Design and prepare floral arrangements i.e.; bouquets, sprays, wreaths or vases of flowers to meet our hotel guests' satisfaction whether it is for a guest's room, a wedding or private function. Prepare and place fresh, eye-appealing floral arrangements throughout the public areas of the hotel. Organize the storage, sale and delivery of floral arrangements. Maintain a neat, clean and orderly flower shop. Responsible for assisting with holiday and special theme decorating of both the Lodge and Inn at Skytop. Maintain live plants throughout the hotels and cottages. 


REPORTS TO:  Director of Sales & Marketing


PRIMARY DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS

1. Decorate public hotel areas for holidays, theme weekends, and special events.

2. Maintain live plants at The Lodge, Inn and cottages.

3. Prepare for weddings.

4. Perform basic flower shop duties:

  1. a. Clean flower containers
  2. b. Clean work area
  3. c. Answer phone
  4. d. Clean cooler

5. Take phone orders and assist customers in retail shop.

6. prepare appropriate floral arrangements based on discussions with clients about their requirements, including type of occasion and budget available.

7. Ensure that flowers remain in good condition taking into account the temperature, watering requirements and storage needs.


PRIOR EXPERIENCE: At least two (2) years' experience working with floral design and decorating is necessary but willing to train the right candidate.


RESPONSIBLE FOR:  Personal appearance, uniform.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Job requires driving, frequent standing and walking. Also requires climbing on stairs and ladders and some crawling. Must have the capability to work in kneeling positions, frequent bending, squatting, and pushing and pulling. Must have the ability to lift up to 40 pounds. 


WORKING ENVIRONMENT:  Work takes place in the Floral Shop, Lodge and Inn. Will work in adverse weather conditions. Schedule includes weekends and holidays. Some extended hours may be required. 


HAZARDS ENCOUNTERED: Spray paint, glue and other chemicals are hazardous if improperly used; or if contact with skin, eyes or clothing occurs. Care should be taken to avoid overexposure to the sun when working outdoors. When working outdoors precaution should be taken against insects by using an insect repellent. Flower cutters and other tools can also be a hazard if used improperly.

Requirements

 SKILLS REQUIRED:  Must have versatility in floral design, be creative and artistic with decorating. After training must be able to perform all required tasks satisfactorily. Must possess good communication skills. Individual must possess a valid PA Driver's License. 


EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to understand written and verbal instructions and able to understand, read, and write the English language. 


SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:  Knowledge of different varieties of flowers and current on new floral designs.


PERSONALITY REQUIREMENTS: Must be trustworthy, reliable; possess good telephone and people skills. Must be team-oriented, friendly and hospitable, be self-motivated and take the initiative to work independently. Individual must have the ability to work repetitively and be flexible with work schedule.
