Job Summary

The Medical Assistant (MA) is a graduate of an accredited medical assisting program and holds current certification. Working within the scope defined by the Medical Director and the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), the CMA/MA provides evidencebased care in alignment with the Nurse Practice Act and other governing bodies.

The MA demonstrates growing competency in caring for patients with chronic conditions, seeks consultation when needed, and benefits from ongoing feedback. This position reports to the Clinical Manager and ultimately to the Chief Nursing Officer


Essential Functions

  • Maintain professionalism in all agency interactions.
  • Prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Demonstrate respect for cultural diversity.
  • Use medical terminology appropriately.
  • Perform administrative medical assisting duties per agency guidelines.
  • Schedule, coordinate, and monitor patient appointments, including followup calls.
  • Understand and adhere to managed care policies and procedures.
  • Use electronic systems to receive, organize, prioritize, and transmit information.
  • Triage patients of all ages according to agency protocols.
  • Work directly with assigned providers.
  • Conduct patient history and chief complaint assessments.
  • Document demographic and medical information in the electronic medical record (EMR) and retrieve data as needed.
  • Apply aseptic technique and infection control principles.
  • Comply with quality assurance standards.
  • Collect and process laboratory specimens.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment.
  • Perform routine maintenance on administrative and clinical equipment

Schedule

  • Monday-Tuesday 8:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.
    Wednesday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
  • Occasional extended hours
  • On-site position

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required 
  • Current CPR/BLS certification is required. 
  • Experience as a Medical Assistant/ Certified Medical Assistant preferred
  • Graduate of an accredited school of Medical Assisting required. Certified to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia preferred.
