Job description

Avion Solutions Inc., a 100% employee-owned company, is seeking candidates for a Test Engineer to support the Missile Defense Agency. This position is located in Huntsville, AL.

Job Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Experience with hardware confidence, acceptance, and qualification testing: example testing to include vibration, shock, thermal, and EMI/EMC; assessing test data to include verification of ramp rates, verification of compliance to shock and vibe bounds, EMI/EMC bounds; reviewing test plans and procedures comply with MDA standards documentation; attend test events and report to Government status and compliance and/or anomalies to MDA processes and procedures.

  • Serve as an expert on behalf of the MDA/DT Targets program office in support of the design and analysis of payloads and countermeasures.

  • Provide oversight of payload and countermeasure requirements development

  • Provide an independent assessment of the prime contractor payload and countermeasure designs

  • Provide technical reviews and recommendations on all design and development plans to include prime contractor reports, analyses, procedures, etc.

  • Provide technical evaluation of target instrumentation to include requirements, instrumentation layout, types of instrumentation, testing of instrumentation, etc.

  • Support DTTE Technical Team requests for design information, such as CAD drawings, materials, and hardware for signature testing in support of characterization and optical/RF model development.

  • Support the cost analysis team with technical evaluation for an accurate cost estimate for PM.

  • Support program scheduler to meet program delivery deadlines and keep PM advised.

  • Represent the interests of the customer in Working Groups, forums, and Technical Interchange Meetings.

  • Other duties as assigned.


Required Experience:

  • Master's degree and 12+ years working on payloads or countermeasures for DoD programs, or a Bachelor's degree and 20+ years working on payloads or countermeasures for DoD programs.

  • Experience across multiple engineering disciplines.

  • Ability to communicate technical information to the non-technical members of the program office to support the programmatic mission.

  • Can work independently and/or lead teams to analyze and resolve problems.

  • Must be able to work in a dynamic environment and have the individual flexibility to work multiple actions simultaneously and resolve time-sensitive issues.

  • Strong communication skills to include oral, written, and briefing.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen and have the ability to obtain/maintain a DoW security clearance.

  • Must be able to travel up to 25% of the time.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Understanding of IR/RCS signatures of payloads and countermeasures.

  • Experience with material properties and material property measurements.

  • Knowledge of ADP threat systems and how those impact target designs.

  • Have an understanding of MDA MDS flight test requirements and apply that to the payload hardware development.
