Description
The Simulator Maintenance Technician II applies intermediate knowledge and experience to solve any technical tasks or system problem. Work may be reviewed by higher level Technicians to ensure compliance with accepted practices and/or standard operating procedure. The Maintenance Technician II is responsible for analyzing malfunctions, the repair, calibration, inspection, overhaul, modification, re-programming, maintenance support and operation of simulators, trainers, computers and digital image visual systems. This position requires working any shift as required for successful operations and maintenance of the Rotary Aircrew Training System (RATS) CLS/TSSC Program.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Capable of performing all Electronic Maintenance Technician 1 tasks.
- Apply comprehensive technical knowledge to solve complex problems by interpreting manufacturer's manuals or simulator documents.
- Performs such tasks as replacing components and wiring circuits and repairing complex electronic equipment.
- Proficient at taking test readings using instruments such as digital multi-meters, signal generators, semiconductor testers, curve tracers, and oscilloscopes.
- Read and interpret schematics and electrical diagrams.
- Performs overhaul of components as necessary.
- Coordinates maintenance activities to achieve maximum utilization of the trainers.
- Work requires familiarity with the interrelationships of circuits and judgment in planning work sequence and in selecting tools and testing instruments.
- Advanced knowledge of aircraft flight fundamentals within the device in order to perform operational checks and diagnose complex discrepancies.
- Bench checks unserviceable units and determines need for adjustment or disassembly down to component level
- Perform required readiness checks on equipment and instruments associated with the flight simulator and test equipment.
- Requires good understanding of aircraft/simulator functions and subsystems such as avionics, hydraulics, motion, displays and electronics.
- Performs final calibration and functional tests.
- Install and maintain Computer Based Training (CBT) networks, servers and workstations.
- Performs trouble analysis and final alignment of multisystem complexes consisting of several complete integrated systems.
- Makes functional tests, interpreting and applying a broad range of technical data.
- Evaluates operational characteristics of the integrated systems.
- Suggest changes to improve operation through equipment failure and malfunctions analysis.
- Develops work instructions and forms as required.
- Instructs other technicians with lesser experience and skill.
- Recommends design or program changes or modifications in circuitry or hardware to improve simulation or overall operation.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assists the lead technician with collateral duties such as supply, inventory control, and administrative procedures.
- Prepares or assists in the preparation of discrepancy reports.
- Provides support to Quality Assurance function in support of the Company quality assurance plan.
- Travels as required
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualification Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function and responsibility satisfactorily. The following requirements are representative of the necessary qualifications.
Knowledge, Skills and Ability:
- Ability to clearly relay information, both verbally and written, to others.
- Ability to fluently read, write, speak, and understand English.
- Ability to work with minimum supervision and in conjunction with others.
- Ability to exercises good judgment and to assume responsibility for accuracy and completeness of work.
- Ability to apply comprehensive knowledge of all major units of the complete multisystem, to achieve operating specifications.
- Ability to determine proper sequence of operations and start point in sequential operations in order to pinpoint areas of malfunction.
- Extensive practical knowledge of the theories and practices of electronic circuits, computer theory, hydraulic or pneumatic control and power systems, and many other areas covering a wide range of system applications.
- Basic knowledge of mathematics, including trigonometry, to calculate power relationships, signal phasing, etc.
- Ability to interpret drawings for multisystem complexes.
- Ability to isolate malfunctions of complete multiple integrated systems, and to determine the methods of repair.
- Ability to obtain a TOP SECRET security clearance.
Education and Formal Training:
High School diploma or equivalent and completion of a civilian or military basic electronic program are required. Bachelor's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering is highly desired.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
- May be required to obtain forklift certification
- May be required to obtain Security Plus Certification
- DoD IAT Level II Certification required or able to obtain within 180 days of Employment start date
Experience:
Three to five years of experience as a flight simulator technician or equivalent is desired, with a demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex non-routine problems. Experience should include component level test and repair of microprocessor-controlled equipment and working knowledge of common simulator administration and software languages.

While performing the duties of this job, the technician is regularly required to sit, use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The technician must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. The technician must have close and distance vision and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
