SUMMARY
The Welding Engineer serves as the subject matter expert for all welding processes at FlexSteel by supporting production, quality, training, automation, and continuous improvement initiatives. The Welding Engineer develops and optimizes welding procedures, supports robotic welding systems, certifies personnel, and drives manufacturing efficiency and product quality
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Welding Process Development:
    • Develop, quality, and maintain welding procedures (WPS/PQR).
    • Establish process parameters for new products and materials.
    • Troubleshoot welding defects and implement corrective actions.
    • Improve weld quality, productivity, and repeatability.
  • Production Support:
    • Provide daily support to production teams.
    • Investigate welding-related quality issues.
    • Reduce scrap and rework through process improvements.
    • Support root cause investigations.
  • Robotic Welding Systems:
    • Support programming and optimization of welding robots.
    • Develop new robotic welding applications.
    • Improve robot utilization, cycle times, and weld consistency.
    • Work with maintenance and controls personnel on automation projects.
  • Training & Qualification:
    • Train welders, operators, and technicians.
    • Administer welding qualification tests.
    • Maintain welding certifications and training records.
    • Serve as technical advisor on welding best practices.
  • Quality & Compliance:
    • Ensure compliance with AWS, ASME, API, and customer requirements.
    • Support internal and external audits.
    • Review weld inspection data and recommend improvements.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Lead projects to improve efficiency, quality, throughput, and safety.
    • Evaluate new welding technologies and equipment.
  • Support CAPEX projects involving welding and automation.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering or related subject required.
  • 5-10 years of experience in manufacturing welding required.
  • Experience developing WPS/PQR.
  • Experience with robotic welding systems.
  • Experience training and qualifying welders.
  • Experience supporting high-volume manufacturing environments.
  • Preferred certifications: AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI), AWS Certified Welding Educator (CWE), Certified Welding Supervisor (CWS)
  • This position may require:
