Job description

We are seeking a detail-oriented Conventional Prepress Technician with experience in flexographic printing to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing digital artwork, creating print-ready files, and ensuring high-quality output for flexo printing. This role involves working closely with designers, production teams, and press operators to optimize print accuracy and efficiency.

Monday-Friday 8am-5pm

Job Summary: This role is responsible for preparing film, plates, and other prepress materials to ensure high-quality flexographic print production. Understanding of prepress workflows, color management, and plate-making techniques for flexographic printing applications

Supervisory Responsibilities: None.


Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Reads press schedule, job ticket, VPS and all other furnished specifications in detail to determine order in which jobs are plated and what size plate is used, questions all discrepancies or oddities in instructions.
  • Review images produced on plates for defects or errors that will manifest during the printing process.
  • Prepare and process artwork for flexographic printing, ensuring accuracy and quality.
  • Operate and maintain conventional prepress equipment, including film imaging, plate processing, and mounting systems.
  • Working knowledge of the Macintosh and Windows operating systems. Knowledge of Adobe Acrobat, Kodak Prinergy, Screen Equios, Heidelberg Prinect and Adobe Illustrator, Esko, or other prepress software. EFI Fiery software a plus.
  • Verifies all job information to ensure that correct proof is being made; checks proofs for quality and reports any problems
  • Complete proofs for customer approval include trimming, folding, perfin, etc.
  • Fill out proof slips/tags and affix to proofs
  • Perform color separations, trapping, and adjustments to meet press requirements.
  • Inspect and troubleshoot artwork, proofs, and plates for defects before production.
  • Work closely with press operators, designers, and production teams to ensure print-ready files.
  • Maintain organized digital and physical archives of print files, film, and plates.
  • Follow industry standards and best practices for flexographic prepress production.
  • Adhere to safety regulations and company policies.
  • Ensure proper dot reproduction, density, and quality control for flexographic plates
  • Completes all required equipment maintenance duties.
  • Understand department communication systems, schedules, time/attendance system and job reporting requirements
  • Must be able to work Overtime when needed
  • Good attendance is a MUST
  • All other duties as assigned

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • ability to read and understand job tickets, layout sheet, artwork and other specifications.
  • Previous printing/press experience
  • Must possess the ability to operate basic hand tools.
  • Knowledge of film imaging, plate-making, and mounting.
  • Experience with Adobe Illustrator, Esko, or other prepress software.
  • Strong ability to spot errors and ensure print accuracy.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve prepress issues.
  • Strong communication and collaboration with press operators and designers
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic procedures in standard practice practical applications, read and use a ruler
  • Must possess excellent skills in working in a team environment
  • Able to multi-task and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Flexible to work overtime and weekends as needed

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • 2-3 years in a flexographic prepress or related printing environment preferred
  • 2+ years previous experience in a prepress, plating, proofing or digital printing environment preferred

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and/or standing.
  • Must be able to stoop, bend, twist and turn frequently.
  • Must be able to lift, pull and push up to 50 lbs. frequently.
  • Two handed operations required must have good hand-eye coordination.
  • Required to stand and move about the facility constantly (walk long distances)

Must be authorized to work in the United States and successfully pass a comprehensive criminal background investigation.
