Job description

We'reย seeking anย on-siteย early-careerย Technical Writerย IIย to create andย maintainย high-quality documentation for ourย Unpilotedย Aerialย Systemsย (UASs). The ideal candidateย hasย a backgroundย in aerospaceย and/orย defenseย documentation,ย and experience translatingย technicalย subject matterย into clear, concise, and user-friendlyย instructional materials.ย 

You will work closely withย senior writers,ย engineers,ย technicalย program managers,ย manufacturing team members,ย and other stakeholders to ensureย thatย documentationย compliesย withย industry standards and meets the needs of customers, regulatory bodies, and internal teams.ย 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIESย 

  • Plan, write, andย maintainย technical documentation for aerospace systems and products, includingย operationย and maintenanceย manuals,ย depot-level maintenance manuals,ย specifications,ย sustainment procedures,ย checklists,ย reports,ย and compliance documentation.ย 
  • Collaborate with aerospace engineers,ย software developers,ย systemย engineers, andย technicalย program managers to gather information and ensure the accuracy of content.ย 
  • Translate engineering data (for example,ย CAD models,ย BOMs,ย test results,ย andย specifications) into user-friendly manuals and procedural documentation.ย 
  • Collaborate withย an establishedย team ofย technical writers to produce rigorous,ย logically organized,ย clear,ย consumable, and compliant documents.ย 
  • Produceย technical illustrations,ย diagrams,ย and otherย visual aids to enhanceย theย understanding of complex aerospace systems and workflows.ย 
  • Collaborate inย and helpย manageย documentation repositories, ensuring controlled and up-to-dateย documentย versions are available to stakeholders.ย 
  • Ensure compliance, where applicable,ย with aerospace standards and regulations (for example, AS9100, FAA,ย andย ITAR) in technical documentation.ย 
  • Ensure compliance, where applicable, withย variousย defenseย technical documentationย style standards, like MIL-STD-38784.ย 
  • Work closely with quality assurance and regulatory teams to prepare documentationย requiredย for certifications and audits.ย 
  • Continuouslyย improveย documentation processes to meet evolvingย team needs,ย aerospace industry requirements,ย and customer expectations.ย 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONSย 

  • Bachelor's degree in Technicalย Communication, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Communications, or a related field.ย 
  • 2-5ย years of experience as a technical writerย withย someย of thatย experience writing technical documentation in the aerospace, manufacturing, orย defense industry.ย 
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical information clearly to a range of audiences.ย 
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities underย tightย deadlines.ย 
  • Exposure toย enterprise-levelย authoringย tools (likeย MadCapย Flare) and version control systems (likeย Git).ย 
  • Experience creatingย technical illustrations and other visualsย using tools likeย Composer,ย Visio,ย PowerPoint,ย Photoshop,ย and/or Illustrator.ย 

Experience conforming to an establishedย style guide.ย 

  • U.S.ย citizenship.ย 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSย 

  • Strong knowledge of unmanned aerial or aerospace systems, components, and technologies, with the ability to understand engineering drawings, CAD models, and technical schematics.ย 
  • Familiarity with engineering processes and software tools,ย Productย Lifecycleย Management (PLM)ย systems,ย Manufacturingย Executionย Systemย (MES)ย software (for example, PICOย MES),ย orย other aerospace-specific platforms.ย 
  • Experience with aerospace standards and compliance, such as AS9100, FAA, or EASA regulations.ย 
  • Experience with or professional exposure toย defenseย specifications.ย
