Job description

FindTalent is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Distribution Line Engineer to support electrical distribution line projects in the St. Louis region. This role is ideal for an experienced engineer with a strong background in overhead and underground distribution design, field surveying, and utility standards. The successful candidate will contribute to high-visibility infrastructure projects supporting municipal and investor-owned utilities, applying technical expertise and quality-focused processes in a collaborative environment.

This position offers a hybrid schedule with flexible work hours, hands-on project involvement, and the opportunity to lead or mentor junior staff. Candidates should bring a minimum of five years of experience in electrical distribution line design and possess solid knowledge of applicable engineering principles, standards, and software tools.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver overhead and underground distribution line designs according to client standards and project criteria

  • Conduct field surveys and site assessments to gather project data

  • Translate field data into design-ready formats using AutoCAD or similar drafting software

  • Develop construction drawings, specifications, and cost estimates for distribution projects

  • Input material and labor estimates into client or internal tracking systems

  • Support project engineers with calculations, documentation, equipment lists, and construction support

  • Assist in pole staking and permitting coordination as required

  • Collaborate with project managers, clients, and team members on design execution and delivery

  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior staff and designers

  • Contribute to process improvements and quality reviews following project completion

Education, Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution

  • Minimum 5 years of experience with distribution line design projects

  • Strong knowledge of NESC, overhead/underground construction methods, and electrical distribution system components

  • Experience with AutoCAD, PLS-CADD, Microsoft Office Suite, and Bluebeam (preferred)

  • Familiarity with easements, right-of-way processes, and permitting standards

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to manage multiple assignments, adapt to changing priorities, and work independently

  • EIT certification or successful completion of the FE exam required; PE license or desire to pursue PE preferred

  • Prior experience in consulting or client-facing engineering environments strongly preferred

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PE license (or the ability to obtain within 12 months)

  • Experience supporting investor-owned or municipal utilities

  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 quality systems or similar quality assurance frameworks

  • Field experience in pole staking, permitting, or construction support

  • Proven leadership in collaborative engineering environments
