Position Summary: 

This position is responsible for, but is not limited to, hauling raw or cooked racked product plant wide.   

Responsibilities: 

  • Weigh/load product into and out of smokehouses/steam boxes/chills as well as move product into and out of smokehouses/steam boxes/chills.   

  • Mark house number/day code letter on product identification/rack tags.   

  • Make sure product is properly spaced on the racks and racks properly positioned in smokehouses/steam boxes.   

  • Enter data to include scanning, weights, destinations, and rack numbers into the computer and handheld program.  

  • Push/Pull up to 1,000-pound product racks from the staging area to and from smokehouse to chill.   

  • Garner and air chills are loaded immediately after product is showed and weighed. 

  • Operate brine/garner/air chills and document product temperatures according to Quality Control specifications to include taking salometer readings.   

  • General housekeeping and cleaning of the entire smokehouse department to include, but is not limited to, the following items:  smokehouses, steam boxes, chills, floors, foam houses, smoke generators, tube, pipes, walls, ceilings, lights, floor scales, waste meat containers, doors. 

  • Keep all equipment cleaned and properly stored.   

  • Operate powered stand up, sit down, and high lift rack-moving tow motor equipment.   

  • Take thermometers to lab and have them calibrated. 

  • Comply with all chemical related requirements. 

  • Comply with all safety, food safety, GMP and SQF requirements.  

  • Perform all positions of job rotation as needed. 

  • Perform any other work as assigned by management.  

Additional Responsibilities: 

  • Ability and willingness to perform basic math functions (i.e.:  addition, subtraction, multiplication, division). 

  • Ability and willingness to work overtime and/or weekends as needed. 

  • Ability and willingness to scan or input into the computer system, all product film, boxes, casings, clips, and ingredients for all daily product runs, including change overs. 

  • Ability and willingness to follow formulations on the computer and accurately record and report food safety or product information. 

Physical Requirements: The successful candidate(s) must be willing and able to perform the physical requirements of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation. 

  • Ability and willingness to lift/lower/carry up to 20 pounds or greater with back and legs. 

  • Ability and willingness to push/pull manually up to 1,000 pounds. 

  • Ability and willingness to both hands for rapid mental muscular coordination, simultaneously. 

  • Ability and willingness to flex/grip with wrist/hands frequently. 

  • Ability and willingness to stand/walk/climb/bend for up to 10 hours. 

  • Ability and willingness to work in wet conditions and cold temperatures at 35 degrees. 

  • Ability and willingness to work in temperatures of 90 degrees to 100 degrees. 

Preferred Skills: 

  • Machine Operator experience preferred 

  • Experience in a manufacturing setting preferred 

  • RF Scanner experience preferred

  • 3 months of work history with the same employer
