Job description

JOB SUMMARY:  
The primary purpose of this position is to drive out electrical and controls losses throughout the organization, troubleshoot electrical issues as they occur and drive to root cause resolution.  This position will drive improvement in all critical business results, including Safety, Quality, Cost, PR, Stops and Customer Service.  Key measures driven by this role are Process Reliability, Stops, Maintenance Effectiveness, MTBF, MTTR, etc.
 
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Learn all aspects of the electrical equipment, controls and process throughout the plant.  This includes can lines, bottle lines, conveyors, wrappers, palletizers, batch systems, brewing, mixers, etc.
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts for all electrical and controls equipment (PLCs, drives, HMIs, optics, sensors, detection systems, safety systems, networking, PCs, etc).
  • Lead improvements on systemic losses throughout the plant.
  • Be a key member of an electrical support team to drive out daily losses.
  • Be able to work a flexible work arrangement (working dayshift, sometimes nightshift, call-ins, etc)
  • Communicate with leadership and maintenance personnel on clear problem statements and determine next steps on troubleshooting efforts.  Partner with supervisors and Line leader in resolution of daily issues.
  • SME (subject matter expert) in the area of power and controls (PLC's, drives, HMI, programming, power distribution, sensors, etc).
  • Responsible for electrical spares and components.
  • Direct and manage electrical and controls work performed by company maintenance personnel, contractors, or third parties.
  • Lead the site in the area of electrical safety including the electrical culture as well as electrical installations.  Lead and role model industry standards and codes such as OSHA, NFPA 70E, NEC, etc.
  • Responsible for training and qualifying maintenance personnel to perform electrical work consistent with industry standards including electrical PPE (flash protection, shock protection, etc).
  • Provide leadership of and effective execution of approved Capital Engineering Projects, with emphasis on electrical and controls.
  • Responsible to identify training issues with the mechanics and operators, to include electrical safety. Facilitate the training. 
  • Successfully serve as member of Engineering & Maintenance Leadership Team.       
QUALIFICATIONS:  
Education:
Required:
  • High School Diploma, or equivalent
  • Highly motivated to be self-taught and learn new and complex electrical systems
        Preferred:
  • Associates Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or Controls.
  • Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering or similar field
 
Experience:
Required:
  • Reliable employee, eager to learn and advance their skills
  • Motivated 
Preferred:
  • 3-15 years of experience in industrial controls equipment
    • Allen Bradley PLC's (PLC-5, ControlLogix 5000, Compact Logix, SLC, etc)
    • HMI programming (Panelview, FactoryTalk, etc)
    • Drives experience (Power Flex, etc)   
    • Sensor experience (level probes, temp sensors, conductivity sensors, limit switches, selector switches, etc)
    • Power distribution experience (480V systems, PDP, MCC's, etc)
  • Electrical Safety training or experience (example: the NFPA 70E standard)
Management Responsibilities:
The Electrical Reliability Engineer will be a peer leader to the Maintenance Planner, Operations leaders, and Maintenance Administrator.  He/she will indirectly lead mechanics, operators, and outside contractors.  He/she will be a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Power & Controls, to include Capital Projects, Maintenance, and Safety.
 
Decision Making Impact:
Key decisions will directly impact employee safety, company physical assets, the ability to produce the finished goods directly associated with corporate revenue, customer service levels, and product safety/quality.
 
Communication & Interaction:
In addition to the interactions associated with the above management responsibilities, the Electrical Reliability Engineer will routinely work with Operations Department managers.  Occasional interaction may be required with public utilities or governmental agencies.
