Job description

Mechanical Inspector AFG is looking to hire a QA Mechanical Inspector proficient in performing inspections of construction in the major trade discipline: Mechanical/Plumbing.

The Facilities and Infrastructure projects the inspector will be inspecting include the following types of spaces: Clinical and patient care units and all related areas to include general, surgical, and specialized hospital spaces. General or highly specialized biomedical research laboratory spaces and all associated support areas to include Bio-Safety Level BSL-2, BSL-3, and BSL-4 laboratories. General or highly specialized animal spaces and all associated support areas.

Current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) rated facilities. Office, administrative, public and all associated areas. Interior and exterior utility systems including chiller and steam plants, electrical vaults, etc.

General Purpose areas such as paving, roofing, building exteriors, hardscaping, and utility efficiency upgrades to mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and architectural systems.Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, or Construction Management and seven (7) years of practical construction inspection experience; or, Two years degree, Trade/Vocation School certification, or Journeyman, Master tradesman or General Contractor's License in a building trade or craft and ten (10) years of practical construction inspection experience; or, High School Diploma and fifteen (15) years practical construction inspection experience in a building craft/trade. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing. Experience in preparing correspondence and maintaining official construction site records using Microsoft Office applications

In-depth knowledge of construction practices and workmanship, including experience in proper uses of construction materials and installation methods. In-depth experience in interpreting construction drawings and specification in construction projects. Ability and experience to conduct inspections in Architectural/Structural/Civil of materials, workmanship, construction, and installations.

Knowledge of safety practices in the construction industry, including a background or familiarity with OSHA requirements for construction projects. Minimum OSHA 10-hour Construction Industry Outreach class. Ability to obtain HSPD-12 security clearance.

Duty station will be based in the Bethesda, MD area, but daily local travel may be required. Relevant past project experience, to include: Projects performed within the last ten (10) years in which the candidate has a significant role that demonstrates the person's capabilities relevant to their role as a QA General Inspector. Clearly identify role performed on each project.

Project title and brief description of each project scope. Dollar value and construction date of each project. At a minimum, projects shall include: One (1) Infrastructure construction project including interior and exterior utility systems such as chiller and steam plants, electrical vaults, and/or utility efficiency upgrades to mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, etc; and, One (1) Bio-medical research laboratory construction project including general or highly specialized Biosafety Level BSL-2, BSL-3, and BSL-4 laboratories.
