*Position Summary

The Assistant Professor of Health Sciences is a full-time faculty position, responsible for delivering high-quality undergraduate instruction, advising students, and contributing to scholarship and service within the School of Natural, Health, Social, and Behavioral Sciences.

This role supports the continued growth and development of the Health Science program through innovative teaching, experiential learning opportunities, and community engagement, while advancing student success and academic achievement.

Core Responsibilities and Expected Outcomes

  1. Teaching and Instruction

โ€ข Teach undergraduate courses within the Health Science curriculum, including introductory and advanced coursework

โ€ข Develop course materials, learning activities, and assessments aligned with program outcomes

Specific courses include, but are not limited to:

-Anatomy & physiology I and II with corresponding lab

-Immunology

-Comparative Vertebrate Anatomy

-Medical terminology

-Intro to Health Sciences

-Human Physiology

Outcome:

โ€ข Students achieve course learning outcomes as measured by assessments and course completion rates exceeding 85%

2) Course Delivery and Engagement

โ€ข Utilize effective teaching strategies in face-to-face, hybrid, and/or online formats. Important note: this is an in person, on-campus teaching position that may, at times, include hybrid or online instruction.
โ€ข Foster an inclusive and engaging classroom environment

Outcome:
โ€ข Student course evaluations meet or exceed department benchmarks (e.g., average rating of 4.0/5.0 or higher)

3) Student Advising and Mentorship

โ€ข Advise and mentor undergraduate students on academic and career planning

โ€ข Support student retention and academic success initiatives

Outcome:

โ€ข Improved student retention and progression within the Health Science program year over year

4) Experiential Learning Supervision

โ€ข Supervise internships, field experiences, and capstone projects
โ€ข Evaluate student performance in applied learning settings

Outcome:

90% or more of students successfully complete internships or field experiences on time

5) Curriculum Development and Assessment

โ€ข Participate in curriculum design, updates, and program assessment activities
โ€ข Align coursework with current health science standards and best practices

Outcome:
โ€ข Curriculum updates completed on a regular review cycle with documented assessment improvements

6) Community and Professional Engagement

โ€ข Develop partnerships with community organizations and healthcare providers
โ€ข Support experiential learning opportunities for students

Outcome:
โ€ข Increased number of active community partnerships supporting internships and program initiatives

7) Scholarship and Professional Development

โ€ข Engage in scholarly research, professional development, or disciplinary activities
โ€ข Maintain current knowledge in health sciences and related fields

Outcome:
โ€ข Evidence of scholarly or professional contributions annually (e.g., presentations, publications, certifications)

8) Service and Institutional Contribution

โ€ข Participate in departmental, school, and university service activities

โ€ข Support student recruitment, retention, and program development efforts

โ€ข Active contribution to committees and initiatives resulting in measurable program growth or improved student outcomes

9) Program Support and Recruitment

โ€ข Contribute to initiatives that promote the Health Science program
โ€ข Engage in outreach and recruitment activities

Outcome:
โ€ข Increased enrollment in Health Science courses and program majors year over year

Required Qualifications:

  • Earned doctorate (Ph.D., Dr. P.H., Ed.D., or related terminal degree) in Health Sciences, Biology, Anatomy, or related health discipline. A clinical doctorate (MD, DPT, DC, etc.) with relevant teaching experience at the university level will be considered.
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to student success, mentorship, and academic engagement

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching in higher education
  • Experience with in-person lecture and lab instruction, online and hybrid instruction
  • Professional experience in healthcare or related fields
  • Evidence of scholarly activity, research, or professional engagement
  • Experience supervising internships or experiential learning opportunities
