The Terminal Manager is responsible for management of drivers, trucks and company resources, achieving the goals and objectives of the organization and meeting bottom line profit expectations. This position oversees daily operations of assigned terminal, routing assignments and scheduling.

  • Direct and coordinate the delivery operation in an effort to achieve:
    • Optimum efficiency
    • Best in market customer service
    • Effective use of equipment
  • Maintain fleet and other assets to specified standards within budgeted parameters through effective coordination with the Maintenance Dept.
  •  Achieve or exceed budgeted financial commitments on a cost per gallon basis with particular emphasis on:
    • Wages and benefit costs
    • Vehicle and delivery costs
  • Educate, organize, manage and lead branch employees to achieve company objectives.
  • Optimize use of equipment, facilities and personnel.
  • Achieve or exceed budgeted financial commitments.
  • Monitor and balance fuel inventories.
  • Establish and maintain effective vendor relationships.
  • Optimize efficiency in delivery operations while meeting customer requirements.
  • Ensure governmental compliance relative to trucks, employees and facilities.
  • Promote and create safety awareness, incident prevention, and a safe work environment. 
  • Facilitate fuel purchases at lowest cost in coordination with the Supply Department.  Consider both loading location and time of day.

  • Requires education generally equivalent to successful completion of 4-years high school, or equivalent.  A Bachelor's degree in Operations, Logistics or related field is preferred.
  • Minimum of one year of experience as a Lead Driver, Driver Trainer or Driver Supervisor
  • Experience with petroleum, fueling or fueling logistics is a plus.
  • Ability to work successfully in a fast paced environment with changing priorities is a must.
  • Requires time management and organizational skills.
  • Precise problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Requires strong teamwork and flexibility to accomplish goals and department deadlines.
  • Strong written, verbal and listening communication skills.
  • Requires strong leadership abilities to inspire and coach employees to accomplish deliveries. Position Overview

Under the direction of the General Manager, the Terminal Manager will be responsible for leading, managing, and directing the fleet operations for our Knoxville branch. The primary responsibilities include directing the efficient and on-time dispatching, routing delivery of product(s); ensuring fuel products are purchased at lowest cost, problem-solving customer and delivery issues; managing company drivers; and maintaining customer and vendor relationships. This position requires hands-on involvement and being in the trenches with the routing and dispatching process to ensure optimal performance.

Essential Job Duties

  • Ensure, promote and create safety awareness, incident prevention while creating and maintaining a safety culture environment
  • Maintain fleet and other assets to specified standards within budgeted parameters through effective coordination with the Maintenance Department
  • Achieve or exceed budgeted financial commitments on a cost per gallon basis with particular emphasis on:
  • Develop and execute operational, service and business strategies in support of customer retention, operational execution, and financial growth
  • Establish and maintain branch policies and procedures that are in compliance with governmental regulatory agencies
  • Facilitate fuel purchases at lowest cost in coordination with the Supply Department.
  • Responsible for overseeing the recruiting, hiring, performance management, goal setting, disciplining and training of all drivers and personnel of branch
  • Coach, mentor, and educate lead drivers and branch personnel to achieve company/job objectives and customer service levels to meet overarching company objectives
  • Monitor operations to ensure staff members comply with administrative policies and procedures, safety rules, contracts, and government regulations
  • Ensure customer expectations are met and on-time delivery of products.
  • Develop and execute strategies ensuring achievement of financial, performance, customer, and safety metrics.

Minimum Requirements

  • Combination of high school education and work experience.
  • At least 1 year of experience in transportation management along with a thorough, demonstrated understanding of fleet operations
  • Class A or B CDL Preferred
  • Hazmat and tanker (endorsements within 30 days of employment)
  • Knowledge of transportation operations and laws, federal safety regulations and maintenance requirements preferred
  • Problem solving and analytical skills
  • Strong written, verbal and listening communication skills
  • Strong customer orientation in interacting with and resolving customer related issues in a timely, professional, and positive manner
  • Experience with petroleum, fueling or energy related logistics preferred
  • Effective verbal, written and interpersonal skills in addition to a proven track record of success
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, manage, direct and lead multiple tasks at once
  • Computer proficiency with Word, Excel, and Outlook is required.
  • Knowledge of Transportation Software is a plus
