Tchoupitoulas // Assistant General Manager

New Orleans, LA • On-site

Full-time

Medical, Dental, Vision, PTO

Re-posted 14 days ago

Job description

At Barracuda, we believe that great tacos start with great tortillas, great margaritas start with great tequila and fresh lime juice, and a great restaurant starts with a great team. We're a neighborhood taco stand and margarita garden built on accessibility, hospitality, and consistency; everyone deserves the joy and convenience of having a local taco stand in their community, a space that fosters a sense of togetherness through shared culinary experiences.
We're looking for an Assistant General Manager who's ready to help lead our flagship Tchoupitoulas location.
A Day in the Life
As an Assistant General Manager, you'll be a trusted partner to Tchoup’s Store Manager team — helping run day-to-day operations, supporting your team during service, and stepping in to make things happen wherever the store needs you. This is a hands-on leadership role: you'll be in the mix during the rush, but you'll also be trusted with real decisions, real ownership, and a real path toward growth.

Customer Experience

  • Keep the food, drinks, vibe, facility, and team on point — always
  • Make sure every team member embodies our mission: giving every customer responsive, friendly, attentive service
  • Work closely with Store Manager Team and Operations Team to incorporate feedback from customer reviews: identify trends, develop opportunities for internal improvement and initiatives, conduct 1:1s, etc.
  • Keep the shop clean and ensure teamwide adherence to safety protocols and standards; pride in the space is pride in the work
Operations Management
  • Act as a trusted partner to your Store Manager Team, helping run day-to-day operations with attention to detail and a focus on established checklists, recipe specs, and standardized processes
  • Help manage shift schedules with an eye on business activity, so customer expectations and revenue targets are both met
  • Serve as a communication bridge between internal and external stakeholders: store-level employees, store-level leadership, org-wide leadership, and vendors
  • Proactively identify, propose plans for, and follow through on opportunities to improve efficiency and consistency at the store level
  • Support the Store Manager Team by managing inquiries, developing solutions, and helping execute internal communications and projects
  • Communicate clearly and proactively to keep things transparent and address areas that need attention
  • Cultivate and maintain open lines of communication with other stores’ leadership teams, sharing and implementing best practices to drive store, team, and individual success
Team Support & Development
  • Model and foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement; motivate your team to stay curious, collaborative, and coach to the "why" behind how we do things
  • Support  the team during service as needed: real-time coaching, supplemental station work, etc.
  • Act as the in-house expert on both our SOPs and core values; answer questions as they arise, and find opportunities to help teammates continuously level up
  • Solicit and incorporate feedback from team members, identifying opportunities for enhanced support, communication, and employee experience
  • Own and maintain the integrity of the Certified Trainer Program, including developing, supporting, and holding Certified Trainers accountable as knowledge-keepers and teachers
  • Work closely with Store Manager Team, Shift Leads, and Certified Trainers to ensure new hires’ onboarding aligns with Barracuda’s training program and performance standards
  • Know the policies, monitor for issues, and help administer corrective action promptly, fairly, and consistently
  • Collaborate with Store Manager Team to complete and administer one-on-one performance evaluations, providing actionable opportunities for growth and development

Daily Focus
Your day-to-day will flex in partnership with your Store Manager Team and Operations Manager, but several components will remain constants: managing team, vendor, and customer communications; keeping OS+E inventory and supply orders on track; running daily checklists and guides; managing the facility; closely tracking and managing labor, COGS, and invoices against the store’s financial goals.

Our Core Values

  • Be energetic and purposeful
  • Go first
  • Be patient and direct
  • Be willing to hear and teach the "Why"
  • Recover with style
  • Appreciate the team and customers we have

Who You Are

  • You’ve held leadership positions within hospitality, but you're just as comfortable stepping back on the line when your store needs you there — leading by doing, not just directing
  • You have built - or are eager to build - real business acumen; strong literacy of COGS, labor, and invoices
  • You can flex between hands-on and hands-off — just as effective clearing a table mid-rush as you are stepping up to make a call that affects the whole store
  • A natural leader with a positive attitude who leads by teaching, and who's just as willing to learn and take direction themselves
  • Genuinely hospitality-minded: you know how to “get to the yes” (ie. avoid a “no”) and you understand why it matters
  • Detail-oriented and proactive, with a track record of effective prioritization and follow through
  • A strong communicator who stays composed and keeps their personality, even (especially!) under pressure
  • Natural, sincere relationship-builder: you enjoy getting to know customers and team members alike, and it shows
  • Flexible on availability and comfortable working any shift or station the store needs
  • Quick to pick up new tools and technology, and already comfortable with Google Drive
  • Up to speed on federal and local health and safety guidelines
We know that's a long list, and studies show that some groups of people are less likely to apply if they don't check every box. If this sounds like you and you're excited about the opportunity, we'd love to hear from you.

Requirements

  • 1–2 years of management experience in a restaurant setting
  • Experience with staff scheduling and onboarding, across multiple shifts
  • Working experience with Toast required; familiarity with Restaurant365 a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships, promote a positive team culture, and resolve conflict
  • Exposure to labor and inventory management — comfortable following established budget and ordering processes
  • Availability to work a minimum of five days per week, including weekends, days, and evenings, as scheduled by the Store Manager — with occasional extended hours or a sixth day
  • Manager Food Safety Certification and Responsible Vendor Permit a plus, or ability to obtain within the first 30 days
  • Ability to stand for 8+ hours a shift and lift 50+ pounds, in all kinds of weather
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus
What We Offer
The base annual salary for this role is $70k; this role is eligible to participate in Barracuda’s Manager Bonus program.
At Barracuda, we take care of the people who take care of our customers. You'll get generous PTO, plus your choice of health, dental, and vision plans. Got a pet? We've got you covered there too, with pet insurance and unlimited access to 24/7 pet telehealth. Every shift comes with comped meals across all Barracuda locations, plus a friends-and-family discount to share the love.
Barracuda is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to building an inclusive environment for all employees.
