AspectFlagger CertificationTraffic Control Technician
Required CredentialsFlagger Certification, sometimes additional safety trainingFlagger Certification plus knowledge of traffic control setup
Work EnvironmentOn-site traffic direction, outdoor construction zonesDesigning, setting up, and managing traffic control plans
Employer & Industry UsageConstruction, road maintenance, utility workConstruction companies, traffic management firms
Common Search & ComparisonOften compared for on-site traffic safety rolesMore involved in planning and setup

Flagger Certification primarily qualifies individuals to direct traffic safely at work zones, focusing on on-site traffic control. Traffic Control Technicians typically have broader responsibilities, including planning and installing traffic control devices. While both roles require Flagger Certification, Traffic Control Technicians often possess additional skills for managing entire traffic control plans.

What are some common challenges flaggers face on the job and how can they be addressed?

Flaggers often face challenges such as maintaining clear communication with drivers and construction crews, staying alert in high-traffic or noisy environments, and ensuring their own safety while directing vehicles around work zones. These challenges can be addressed by consistently following established safety protocols, using hand signals and radios effectively, and wearing high-visibility clothing. Regular training and staying aware of changing road conditions also help flaggers perform their duties safely and efficiently.

What is Flagger Certification?

Flagger Certification is a formal recognition that an individual has been trained to direct and control traffic safely in construction zones or areas where road work is being performed. This certification ensures that flaggers understand the proper procedures, signals, and safety protocols to keep both workers and motorists safe. Most states require flaggers to complete a training course and pass an exam to obtain certification, which is typically valid for a set number of years. Certified flaggers are essential for maintaining safety and minimizing risks in work zones.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Flagger, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Flagger, you need knowledge of traffic control procedures, situational awareness, and a valid Flagger certification from an accredited organization. Familiarity with standard hand signals, two-way radios, and personal protective equipment (PPE) is typically required. Strong communication skills, alertness, and the ability to remain calm under pressure help ensure the safety of both workers and the public. These competencies are crucial for effectively directing traffic, preventing accidents, and maintaining safe construction or event zones.

About the Role

This is an entry point into a fast-growing EV career. As an EV Reconditioning Technician I, you'll handle the foundational maintenance and reconditioning work that gets every vehicle retail-ready, while building hands-on EV expertise under the direction of our senior technicians. It's a role for someone early in their career who does clean, reliable work, takes coaching well, and wants to grow into high-voltage diagnostics over time. Recent graduates of accredited automotive programs are encouraged to apply.

What You'll Do
  • Perform routine maintenance and light reconditioning — brakes, tires, suspension and steering, fluids, filters, wipers, and 12V battery service
  • Complete reconditioning tasks to prepare vehicles for retail sale under the guidance of senior technicians
  • Assist with inspections and basic diagnostics, flagging issues for senior-tech review
  • Follow OEM and Ever procedures for safe handling around high-voltage systems
  • Complete pre-delivery and post-reconditioning quality checks
  • Document all work accurately in Ever's internal systems
  • Support parts handling — receiving, staging, and inventory — as needed
  • Build EV-specific skills through on-the-job training and manufacturer coursework
  • Collaborate with recon, inventory, and logistics teams to hit throughput targets
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workspace
Qualifications & Fit
  • 0–2 years of automotive technician experience, or a recent graduate of an accredited automotive program
  • Able to perform basic repairs independently — brakes, tires, suspension, fluids, and filters
  • High-voltage safety awareness, or willingness to obtain certification (Ever supports this)
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and a genuine willingness to learn EV systems
  • Comfortable using hand tools, power tools, and basic scan tools
  • Detail-oriented, with real pride in quality work
  • Reliable, coachable, and a team player in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
  • Passion for EVs and future mobility
  • Valid driver's license with a clean record (must be 21+ to road test per policy)
  • High school diploma or GED preferred
Technical Skills
  • Foundational understanding of basic electrical theory and safe use of a DVOM (multimeter)
  • Comfortable with brakes, suspension and steering, and tire and alignment basics
  • Ability to follow service procedures, checklists, and repair orders
  • Experience servicing EVs (Tesla, Rivian, Lucid, etc.) a plus
  • Multi-make, high-volume reconditioning experience (CarMax, Carvana, etc.) a plus
  • ASE entry-level certification, or willingness to pursue A-series certifications, a plus
Benefits
  • Competitive salary + performance bonus
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • PTO
  • 401(k) plan
Why Ever and this role?
  • Launch an EV career with a clear, structured path to Senior Technician
  • Work hands-on with the newest EV models
  • Learn directly from senior diagnostic technicians
  • Join the fastest-growing EV retailer in the U.S.
  • Build rare, high-demand EV technical expertise from day one
  • Direct impact on vehicle quality and customer experience

Ever is an equal opportunity employer. We encourage applicants from all backgrounds and experiences to apply.
