ABOUT US

New York Edge is the largest after-school and summer camp program provider in New York City public schools. Each year, academic programs, including STEM, the arts, sports and wellness, and college access, help 40,000 students develop leadership skills and succeed in school. Working parents count on our programs to provide safe and enriching environments for their children.

SUMMARY

New York Edge is looking for passionate and enthusiastic individuals to fill the role of Flag Football Specialist. In this position, you will be critical in providing tailored, age-appropriate coaching and mentoring to young people in New York Edge's after-school day camp programs. Flag Football Specialists are responsible for organizing and leading physical activity programs, ensuring the safety of all participants. In this role, you will manage and lead flag football activities to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for all involved.


WORK SCHEDULE

  • 9-15 hours per week.

  • Monday through Friday -- 2:30 pm - 5:30 pm


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS


  • Motivate students to engage in flag football activities and promote daily physical activity.

  • Develop and implement lesson plans that are structured, age-appropriate, and aligned with our flag football curriculum. These plans should focus on skills such as passing, receiving, and flag pulling.

  • Maintain communication with the Program Director regarding schedules, leagues, tournaments, and special events, including playoff games and scrimmages.

  • Encourage student participation in organization-wide flag football events and activities, including clinics and friendly competitions.

  • Establish and enforce safety rules and procedures to maintain order among participants, emphasizing the importance of fair play and sportsmanship.

  • Instruct participants on flag football techniques, including routes, formations, and defensive strategies, while ensuring proper use of equipment such as flags and cones.

  • Set clear objectives for lessons and communicate these goals to students, focusing on skill development and teamwork.

  • Prepare facilities for flag football practices and games, ensuring the playing area is safe and properly marked.

  • Evaluate activities to ensure they meet desired learning outcomes and adapt to accommodate varying skill levels.

  • Foster the development of both athletic skills and positive character traits, such as teamwork, respect, and resilience among youth.

  • Provide support during academic hours as needed.


REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Must be knowledgeable and skilled in Flag Football and have prior experience successfully teaching and instructing youth.

  • Prior experience teaching and instructing youth preferred

  • Must be able to follow a curriculum

  • Must be responsible, reliable, and punctual!

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required.

  • May be required to walk up and down stairs.

  • May have to lift or move objects/materials as needed.

  • Work is performed mostly within a New York City Public School but may be required to interact with the community at-large during trips or events.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required; some college preferred

  • A minimum of one year of work-related skill, knowledge, or experience is required.

  • A minimum of one year of teaching experience is required.

  • Must have passion for New York Edge's mission and demonstrated interest in education and youth development.

  • Candidates qualified to lead instruction in more than one activity are also preferred.


The Flag Football Specialist will be required to report to the school building and interact with staff, students, parents, and school administration.

At the time of offer and acceptance, the job requires safety and security clearances through the Department of Education and Department of Health.
