Job description

Job Title: Fixed Assets Accountant
Position Summary
The Fixed Assets Accountant is responsible for managing the full lifecycle of the Company's fixed assets, including capitalization, depreciation, reconciliations, physical asset management, lease accounting, tax support, and audit compliance. This position works closely with Engineering, Operations, Facilities, Project Management, Tax, IT, and Corporate Accounting to ensure accurate financial reporting, compliance with US GAAP, and effective internal controls.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Review invoices and supporting documentation to determine proper accounting treatment (capitalize vs. expense) in accordance with Company policy and US GAAP.
  • Create and maintain fixed asset master records in SAP, including asset class, depreciation key, useful life, and cost center assignments.
  • Process fixed asset additions, transfers, retirements, disposals, write-offs, and intercompany asset transfers.
  • Maintain complete supporting documentation for all capitalization transactions.
  • Print and issue fixed asset labels for newly capitalized assets when required.
  • Monitor Construction-in-Progress (CIP) projects and capital prepayments.
  • Follow up with project owners to determine project status and ensure timely capitalization when assets are placed into service.
  • Coordinate with Engineering, Facilities, Operations, and Project Management teams to verify project completion.
  • Execute monthly depreciation runs and validate depreciation postings.
  • Reconcile the Fixed Asset subledger to the General Ledger.
  • Investigate and resolve reconciliation discrepancies.
  • Review depreciation reports for accuracy and consistency.
  • Verify leasehold improvement depreciation periods align with lease terms.
  • Prepare monthly fixed asset roll-forward schedules.
  • Support internal and external audit requests by providing documentation and explanations.
  • Support government incentive audits, including capital investment grant programs.
  • Coordinate asset transfers between manufacturing sites.
  • Support corporate reporting requests related to capital expenditures and fixed assets.
  • Participate in Fixed Asset management platform enhancements, upgrades, testing, and implementation.
  • Partner with IT to develop automated fixed asset management solutions.

Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • CPA or CPA candidate preferred.
Experience
  • 3-5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in fixed assets or general accounting.
  • Manufacturing industry experience preferred.
  • Experience with SAP Fixed Assets module strongly preferred.
  • Experience supporting audits and tax reporting.
Knowledge & Skills
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP, fixed asset accounting, and depreciation.
  • Understanding of capitalization policies and internal controls.
  • Experience with SAP ERP systems.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Strong analytical and reconciliation skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
