Job Description
As a member of the Legal & Compliance group, the Legal Associate will support the firm's public capital market investment activities by reviewing, negotiating, and implementing investment-related agreements and analyzing legal and commercial issues that arise in these contexts. The position also involves improving contracting processes and supporting the implementation of technology solutions, including AI tools, to enhance the efficiency of legal workflows.
Responsibilities
  • Primarily assist with contracting and documentation for support of Wellington's Investment Platform including documentation for fixed income and equity transactions, derivatives and non-disclosure agreements.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for the Public Markets Legal team and investment professionals.
  • Collaborate with other members of the Legal team as necessary in connection with contracting work.
  • Assisting with complex issues arising on documentation and helping to establish controls and processes where required.
  • Support the development and implementation of technology solutions in relation to the contracting process, including AI and Microsoft Suite Power Apps.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of legal processes, design and efficiency.
Qualifications
The successful candidate is likely to have:
  • Bachelor's degree in political science, Government, Economics, Finance, or a related field of study
  • 1-2 years' experience in a legal or contracting function at an asset manager, financial institution, or large corporate, and experience in technology applications
  • Interest in the implementation of legal technology and process design and improvement
  • Good business judgement and strong collaboration skills
  • A pragmatic and risk aware approach to contracting, coordination, and collaboration within the Legal team and wider business
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to effectively distill and communicate complex issues in a dynamic environment
  • The character and ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Language skills would be a positive but is not a requirement
  • Qualification as a lawyer is not a requirement for consideration for the role

The base salary range for this position is:
USD 80,000 - 150,000
This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered when making compensation decisions, including but not limited to skill sets; role; skills and experience; certifications; and education. This range is an estimate, and further details on salary and total compensation aspects will be shared with candidates during the recruitment process.
