What are fixed assets?

Fixed assets are long-term tangible pieces of property or equipment that a company owns and uses in its operations to generate income. Examples include buildings, machinery, vehicles, and furniture. These assets are not expected to be consumed or converted into cash within a year. Instead, they provide value over a longer period and are recorded on the company’s balance sheet. Proper management and accounting of fixed assets are essential for accurate financial reporting and tax purposes.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a fixed assets accountant?

To thrive as a Fixed Assets Accountant, you need a strong background in accounting principles, asset management, and financial reporting, typically supported by a degree in accounting or finance. Familiarity with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems such as SAP or Oracle, and proficiency in Excel are commonly required; certifications like CPA can be advantageous. Attention to detail, analytical thinking, and effective communication are important soft skills for ensuring accuracy and collaborating with other departments. These skills and tools are crucial for maintaining accurate asset records, supporting compliance, and providing reliable data for business decisions.

What are some common challenges faced in a fixed assets role, and how can they be addressed?

A common challenge in a Fixed Assets role is ensuring the accurate tracking and reconciliation of assets throughout their lifecycle, from acquisition to disposal. Our Oracle CFO & Enterprise Value (CFO & EV) practice helps finance organizations reinvent themselves through Oracle Cloud ERP. We partner with CFOs and finance leaders to modernize the close, accounting, fixed assets, controllership, planning, and reporting landscape-unlocking insight, productivity, and measurable enterprise value through data-driven finance transformation.

You Are:

A finance-minded Oracle ERP Consultant who helps CFOs and controllers transform core accounting and finance operations on Oracle Cloud ERP.

You blend deep functional knowledge of Financial General Ledger and Sub-ledger processes with strong consulting, communication, and delivery skills. You are comfortable partnering across business, technology, testing, training, and offshore teams to align priorities, solve complex finance problems, and guide users through new ways of working.

You bring hands-on experience configuring Oracle Financials, working with finance process data, and translating CFO priorities into scalable solutions that drive enterprise value, controls, and decision-ready insight.

The Work:

  • Support Oracle Cloud ERP transformation programs for CFO and finance organizations, including finance process redesign, solution configuration, data conversion, testing, training, deployment, and post-go-live adoption.

  • Design and configure Oracle Fixed Assets capabilities including asset categories, books, depreciation methods, capitalization, transfers, retirements, and integration with Projects and GL.

  • Translate CFO priorities into measurable enterprise value cases-building business cases, value architectures, and KPI baselines that link Oracle ERP capabilities to finance outcomes such as faster close, improved forecast accuracy, and reduced cost-to-serve.

  • Analyze finance process data-chart of accounts, sub-ledger mappings, master data, journals, asset registers, and reconciliations-to inform design, cleanse legacy data, and validate cutover readiness.

  • Collaborate across client stakeholders, Accenture delivery teams, product teams, integration teams, testing teams, training teams, and offshore resources to deliver coordinated Oracle Cloud ERP outcomes.

  • Provide hands-on Oracle Cloud ERP training, coaching, and enablement for business users, super users, and project team members to support long-term finance adoption.

  • Support execution of cutover activities, deployment readiness, change enablement, and stakeholder communications for finance releases.

  • Identify opportunities to improve delivery methods, solution quality, and cross-team collaboration while helping CFOs realize finance transformation value.

Travel may be required for this role. The amount of travel will vary from 0 to 100% depending on business need and client requirements.

What You Need:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience implementing Oracle Cloud ERP Financials (General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Cash Management, or Intercompany).

  • Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience configuring and deploying Oracle Fixed Assets, including asset lifecycle, depreciation, and reporting.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in finance transformation consulting, including process design, controllership, close optimization, or CFO advisory work.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working with finance process data-chart of accounts design, sub-ledger to ledger reconciliation, data conversion, or finance master data management.

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience serving utilities clients (electric, gas, or water) or in a utilities finance, controllership, or regulatory function.

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent (minimum 12 years' work experience). If Associate's Degree, must have equivalent minimum 6-year work experience

Bonus Points If:

  • You have a Oracle Cloud ERP Financials certification (e.g., Oracle Financials Cloud: General Ledger, Payables, or Fixed Assets Implementation Specialist).

  • You have a CPA, CMA, ACCA, MBA, or equivalent accounting/finance credential.

  • You have experience with Oracle EPM (FCCS, ARCS, PCMCS, EPBCS) and how it integrates with Oracle Cloud ERP for close, reconciliation, and planning.

  • You have experience leading finance transformation in a managed services, global business services, or shared services operating model.

  • You have familiarity with finance analytics and reporting tools (OTBI, Oracle Analytics Cloud, Smart View) and use of GenAI/agentic AI in finance.

  • You have experience working in Scrum or Agile delivery environments, including user stories, sprint ceremonies, backlog management, demos, or defect resolution.
