The successful candidate will bring strong fixed asset accounting experience, a thorough understanding of general ledger procedures, and the ability to work closely with project leaders and other departments. This role requires a high level of accuracy, sound judgment, and the ability to independently prioritize multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain complete and accurate accounting records for capital assets throughout the asset lifecycle.
  • Record asset purchases, transfers, retirements, and other fixed asset activity in the organizationโ€™s financial system.
  • Review active capital projects and coordinate with project stakeholders to determine when costs are ready to be placed into service.
  • Monitor construction-in-progress and other capital accounts for items requiring capitalization, reclassification, or further review.
  • Prepare recurring journal entries, account adjustments, and supporting schedules related to fixed assets.
  • Reconcile assigned fixed asset and general ledger accounts each month.
  • Research account differences, identify the underlying cause, and complete necessary corrections.
  • Assist with financial close activities at the end of each month, quarter, and fiscal year.
  • Conduct periodic physical reviews of company assets and compare findings with accounting records.
  • Identify assets that have been relocated, retired, sold, abandoned, or otherwise removed from service.
  • Ensure fixed asset documentation remains accurate, current, and properly supported.
  • Work with internal teams to gather information regarding project status, asset usage, and capital expenditures.
  • Apply established capitalization guidelines, accounting policies, and internal control requirements to all asset-related transactions.
  • Provide schedules and supporting documentation for internal reviews, external audits, and financial reporting requests.
  • Help strengthen fixed asset processes by identifying inconsistencies and recommending practical improvements.
  • Maintain confidentiality when working with financial records, project costs, and other sensitive business information.
  • Complete additional accounting projects and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field.
  • At least three years of direct fixed asset accounting experience.
  • Strong knowledge of asset capitalization, additions, transfers, disposals, reconciliations, and general ledger accounting.
  • Familiarity with financial close processes and the preparation of journal entries and account adjustments.
  • Experience working with accounting software, financial applications, or enterprise resource planning systems.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including the ability to work effectively with spreadsheets and financial data.
  • Understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and their application to fixed assets.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate records and supporting documentation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to resolve account discrepancies.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a consistent commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to manage several assignments simultaneously while meeting established deadlines.
  • Strong organizational, time-management, and workload-prioritization skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with accounting personnel, project leaders, and cross-functional business teams.
  • Dependable, accountable, and capable of working independently with appropriate professional judgment.
  • Ability to work a fully on-site schedule.
