All Coastal Health District County Health Department employees are deemed essential employees in the event of an emergency. As such, you may be called on to participate in an event not limited to but including, staffing a shelter, a Specimen Point of Collection Site (SPOC) and/or Point of Dispensing site (POD). When you are called on to participate, you are expected and it will be a part of your job requirement to participate, whether the emergency occurs during or outside regular work hours.
Under broad supervision the District TB Nurse will provide professional nursing care in accordance with nursing protocols, policies and procedures. The individual will provide TB guidance, education and/or training to patients, staff, healthcare facilities and community partners based on State of Georgia TB protocols.
*Position will travel to all county health departments within District -Bryan, Camden, Chatham, Effingham, Glynn, Liberty, Long, and McIntosh.
Job Responsibilities
  • Conduct TB specific trainings, provide nursing services, guidance, and audit TB records for compliance.
  • Provide TB education to patients and community partners.
  • Facilitate hospitalization and/or discharge planning with social worker and/or infection control nurses.
  • Provide comprehensive physical assessments for TB patients of all ages.
  • Serves as patient advocate and refers patients to community partners or private physicians, when indicated.
  • Assist county health departments perform home visits for TB cases/suspects to assess the home environment or a hospital visit prior to discharge.
  • Collaborate with health care providers, hospitals, substance abuse centers, correctional facilities, and community organizations to promote best practices, foster continuity of care, and provide needed consultation for TB patients.
  • Maintain a database of N95 mask fit testing for all Coastal Health District staff and assist with annual staff fit testing.
  • Participate in contact investigations for cases and suspects to elicit and evaluate identified contacts.
  • The District TB Nurse may be asked to perform other duties within their scope of practice.

Minimum Qualifications
Associate degree in nursing from an accredited college or university and one (1) year of nursing experience and completion of a PHN course within one year of hire and current Georgia Registered Professional Nurse license and CPR certification; or one (1) year of experience at the lower level PH Registered Nurse 1 (HCP190) or position equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
  • Experience working with tuberculosis or infectious diseases
  • Bilingual Spanish/English Speaking Language
  • Computer experience (Word,Excel,PowerPoint, data entry, etc.)
