Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Tell the marketโ€™s weather stories in a way that connects with and captivates viewers.
  • Develop innovative and creative ways of presenting the daily weather story, emphasizing accuracy and hyper-local forecasting.
  • Produce weather graphics and analyze data from the National Weather Service and other meteorological sources.
  • Knowledge of MAX reality and producing 3-D models to integrate into creative storytelling.
  • Use MAX Connect and MAX Reality on the field.
  • Required to produce weather segments for other Telemundo and NBCU stations.
  • Work with the weather team and producers to create complete coverage of weather events.
  • Also prepare post forecasts for multiple news platforms in Spanish and English.

โ€ข Use of social media daily and especially during severe events.

  • Constantly update the weather for the Telemundo Las Vegas website.
  • Live reporting and attendance at community and weather-related events will be needed.
  • Daily social media posts, especially during severe weather events.
  • MMJ duties may apply during the work week.
  • Participate in the editorial meetings, be on time, and be prepared to contribute enterprise ideas to the producer team.
  • Represent Telemundo Las Vegas in the community through events requiring the employee to MC.
  • Other duties assigned by News Director.
Qualifications

Qualifications/Requirements

โ€ข One to two year experience as a television presenter.
โ€ข Degree in meteorology preferred or commitment to obtain the degree within a contractual time period
โ€ข Spanish-fluent (spoken and written)

โ€ข Must have the ability to work flexible and sometimes long hours due to the nature of weather events in Las Vegas.
โ€ขAbility to possibly work nights and weekends for coverage of weather events.
โ€ข Must be 18 years or greater.

Desired Characteristics

โ€ข Experience with severe weather coverage, including but not limited to hurricanes, tornados, severe thunderstorms, flooding and ice events
โ€ข Passion to be a part of a major weather event, no matter when it happens.
โ€ข BS degree in meteorology preferred (Or commitment to obtain the degree).
โ€ข Compelling on-air presence - crisp, clear, and confident delivery in Spanish
โ€ข Should thrive working under the intense deadline pressure of television weather.
โ€ข Technologically savvy with strong computer skills (working knowledge of WSI system and WSI 3D graphics preferred.)

โ€ข Excellent written and verbal communication/presentation skills in Spanish and English.
โ€ข Strong leadership qualities and self-motivation.
โ€ข Understanding of the demands of an on-air HD environment
